After collecting my (unwanted pet) boys on Saturday it seems that the 4x2ft double I was told they had is in fact a 3x1! I immediately ordered them a new spacious indoor cage ready to bring them in for winter. Yesterday the weather was good and they were in their run for at least 6 hours but today the weather is awful. I am able to create an indoor play pen for them but as it won't be child-proof I cant house them in this. I am worried that bringing them in for a few hours and then putting them back out will make them poorly.

Their cage should come tomorrow or Wednesday. What should I do? The only options I can think of is leave them in the hutch until the cage comes, unless people think they will be OK with the change of temp if they have a play in an indoor run.

Extremes in temperature can cause illness I think (indoors/outdoors), someone may know better.
I would suggest leaving them in the hutch until the cage comes, as I'm sure they'll be okay for a day or two :)

Oh congratulations on your new piggies. I would pile the hutch with hay and leave them in it till the new hutch arrives. I would not bring them in and then out as the temperatures have dropped significantly this weekend.

OK thanks. I can't even believe hutches are made this small! Seeing two boars in there really shows how little room there is. I had to take the toys I bought them out as they had no room to move. At least they had a good run around yesterday. Fingers crossed the new cage arrives tomorrow. x

Hope to see pictures of them in the new cage!

And I know it's awful the cages they make ;(

The indoor cage I had been given with them was 75cm and I am assuming by the bar spacing it was designed for piggies/rabbits! My hamsters cage was bigger. I am so glad I have them now. Those boys are going to have so much fun.

Can you bring the hutch inside? They are used to it, so one or two days longer will not make a big difference. ;)

Good that you have ordered a new big cage, but please brace yourself that you are liekly to see some dominance behaviour in the new territory as they re-establish their hierarchy. I have found that hutch piggies are happier of you place a blanket over the top of the cage while they get their bearings; that way, they won't feel as exposed at first.
