Hi there!
I have three guinea pigs, but this evening I noticed a problem with my new three month old sow, I’ve only had her for a month now and she been fine. Playing, eating and chatting with the other two sows I have, but this afternoon when I was cuddling her she pooped on me and it was covered in blood, she displayed now signs of being in pain. I’m really concerned about her because she so young. So what could this mean? Please

Please get her seen as soon as possible. Any bleeding should be investigated.

Was it only poo that was covered in blood or did it come with wee? Has she done it again?

She has pooped again and it still covered in blood but she not peeing any blood, She acting normal and the blood is fresh

Update.
She gotten more uncomfortable, her poops are getting longer and thin but there is still blood. I’ve separated her and put in a different cage with my more laid back sow. She still eating and drinking, I’ve started to syringe water to her just in case. My other sow is fine she just really dominant and I don’t want her pushing Priscilla around

These are our emergency guides which may help you.
Switch to weighing her daily so you can monitor her hay intake more closely and know exactly what is going on. This enables you to syringe feed the right amount of mushed pellets or recovery feed if necessary. Syringing water won’t be enough to keep the gut functioning if she isn’t eating enough hay

When can you call the vet?

Thank you so much.
The earliest time I can call is in the morning, I live in Australia so it’s night time here. I’ll weigh her now so I can keep track of her. She hasn’t gotten worse but u can tell she in pain and uncomfortable. She calm down bit since I separated her and put her in a more quiet place in my house. Is there anything I can do for pain or should just wait out until the morning?

She just gotten worse so I called the emergency veterinary and I’ll be at the vets in an hour, so I’ll update u all tomorrow. Thank u all so much for the support ❤️

UPDATE
She started having liquid blood come out of her at the vets when I got there. She instantly had to be x rayed because of how bad the bleeding was. But we found the problem its was a small tear in her intestinal wall of her colon caused by a small piece of plastic, that was still stuck in her, she had to under go surgery to remove it. The vet said she will be fine but I feel really bad about this because she a new guinea pig and still a baby. I was really stupid in letting her free roam in my house with my other two, but I will have to be extra careful in supervision if she is to free roam. She still at the vets to be monitored, I will be able to take her home soon but I will now have to piggy prof my house in the mean time. Thank u all so much for advice and I will send photos of her recovery 🥰😊x

I’m so pleased that the vet has found out what the problem was. Fingers crossed for a speedy recovery.
