My guinea pig Mickey is sick for a week. He is a 4 years 10 months old American breed boy. He was not eating (anorexia) for two days. Then we visited vet. She checked his heart beat and lungs, they are functioning OK. But he has gum redness/soreness and felt pain on putting some pressure on them. The vet assume that it could be due to scurvy which is due to lack of Vitamin C. He don't have any symptoms of hair falls other than lethargy.

We used to feed him lots of green peppers and other vegetables to supplant his vitamin C and water. He didn't drink water much by himself, therefore, vitamin C supplement along water was not an option for him.

He had two surgeries on his two mammary gland lumps 10 months back due to probable cancerous tumors. He recovered pretty well.

Recently, the vet put him in Ibuprofen and Tylenol with Vitamin C intake. Also, she suggested to force feed him with critical care. The doses are human infant solution 0.6cc 100ml/5mg Ibuprofen and 1ml in 32 ml of his drinking water, Tylenol 160mg/5ml. He does not drink water, therefore,Tylenol is not essentially not consumed.

He was recovering well for two days after vet visit with feeding and medication. He started to eat by himself some veggies.

But today he is not interested on any kind of hist favorite veggies. And therefore, I am worried for him.

We had another vet visit scheduled on next Tuesday. On that day he supposed to have dental X-rays and dental surgery such as teeth trimming or removing acing teeth.
The vet also suggested few more X-rays for chest to check any spreading for cancer. Because, anorexia is a symptom of other hidden illness.
Any kind of advice from your experience is highly appreciated and helpful to me.

Thanks.

That sounds really painful! x My Guineas pig is ill, and he lost loads of weight and the veterinarian said that Guinea pigs are good at hiding problems so when you can spot one, it ms not usually good. Anyway, Make sure he’s getting enough hay because this contains tons of healthy stuff guniea pigs need in there diet and also give them celery and cucumber because they contains tons of water x sorry if the infos not that good x i do hope he recovers and hope your ok x

Hi! Please step in with syringe feeding ASAP. You can use mushed up pellets as long as you cut off the syringe tip as shown in our guide to all the fibre to come through. Please keep in mind that over 80% of the daily food intake should be hay while veg is making 10-15% and pellets around 5%. He urgently needs more food and daily weighing at the same time ot monitor his food intake and to stabilise his weight.

If the teeth are overgrown, then he is unable to chew and to process any food. While you are waiting for any research, your main aim has to be to keep your poorly boy alive.

You can use mushed up pellets in an emergency as long as cut off the syringe tip as shown in your guide.
