Would it be a good idea to buy a radio to keep on for my two girls whilst I'm at work during the day?

When I have to go somewhere for more than an hour or two, I've been leaving quiet music on the TV or on my laptop for Penny and now my new piggies as well. Or if they seem a little nervous I put something on in the background for them. Mostly out of habit since I always used to leave music on for my budgerigars.

They seem to like soft piano and chillstep mixes. I don't know if they find the music any more or less calming than generic white noise (like the air filter, a fan, the washing machine, or the sound of the aquarium filters) but I think they appreciate not being left in dead silence. When it's really quiet, they seem a bit more on edge and more likely to nap with their eyes wide open, at least in my limited observation. Try it out and let us know if you notice any difference in your pigs!

If I was playing music for the pigs it had to be a specific few genres, which always made finding radio stations for them a tad difficult. They liked rock, a bit of soft metal, and hated pop music lol.

They won't need it, specifically. As for whether it would be helpful, I can't answer. I think if you do it, leave it on for a bit while you're at home, see how they're taking it. And keep the volume relatively quiet, aye.
