Mucus poo?

I've just noticed during floor time while sweeping up poop that my six year old female had a mucas type substance on one of her poos. It was sticky/stringy. There wasn't much and it hasn't been on any of her other poos that I've noticed in the cage.
She's pooing as much as normal, no change in appetite, is drinking more but as it's summer she usually does.
I inspect almost all of the poo I sweep out of her cage and keep an extra eye on her. I lost her cage mate a few weeks ago which was absolutely devastating. She was also six and they were always together. Her cage mate went down hill fast and also had mucus/stringy poo when she became sick. We were back and forth the vets so much, we tried absolutely everything and they seemed clueless as to what was wrong. I've seen so many vets (20? Maybe more) over the years and be back and forth with minor problems like UTIS and URIs and the vets have always been mostly clueless. I'm absolutely terrified to see mucus in her poo. I'll obviously take her to the vet tomorrow and I always take their advice. But as my previous guinea pig was put to sleep and I never knew what caused it. I'm so scared. Does anyone have any clue what could possibly cause mucus/sticky poo?
Any thoughts would be helpful.
I'm also weighing her and she's still eating her pellets and hay and veg as normal. I'm just really anxious that once again the vet won't know :(
I'm based in Cardiff and have probably visited most vets here at some point.
Thank you

You are doing what I would suggest - weighing regularly, seeing the vet. The only other thing I can think is to reduce the veg intake. Hay obviously needs to be the most important part of their diet and maybe your piggy isn’t eating hay as much as you think (you can’t judge hay intake by eye) and has a gut imbalance. Keep the pellets strictly limited to the recommended one tablespoon per day.
If you’ve seen most vets there then our vet locator may not be of use to you but have a look, just in case.

I give her one tablespoon a day and she's constantly at the hay. Obviously it's hard to tell if she's eating less of it but I've not noticed any difference. I might hold off the veg for a day or two and keep an eye.
Thank you for your reply I really appreciate it

It sounds like a bit of a tummy upset to me. Is she your only guinea pig now? If she has a companion or you have got other piggies, then I would recommend to offer her 'poo soup' (i.e. transfer of healthy live gut microbiome), which is the most effective away of re-stocking the gut with just the right stuff to help get going again.

Mucus can very occasionally happen with a tummy upset but it is not a sign of a fatal illness. You can have the poos analysed if you are so worried but you may also have to consider that there could be an underlying issue that is causing the tummy upset.
Has your girl been on the lawn in the last warm days?

Here is our recommended vets locator: Vet Locator

She's my only guinea pig at the moment. I'm looking to get her a friend but wanted to wait a few weeks as she seemed pretty quiet and it felt too soon to get another right away.
I'm slightly worried this may be the early signs of teeth issues. She's drinking a lot more but as I said she normally does when the weather's hot. Last night her some of her poos looked almost like that had a tiny little string/tail? And two were joined together. We have an appointment with the vet in the morning but usually they're always completely clueless so I'm just trying to get any information before we go.
She hasn't been on the lawn or eaten anything different. It just frightens me as the muscas and poos joined together was something my other guinea pig got when she was sick.
Most of her poos look absolutely normal to me. I may be over worrying but she also has half an oxbow vitamin c tablet at night and usually grabs it and runs away to eat it but tonight she just nibbled a little and left the rest.
Thanks for the replies I really appreciate it

It sounds like a minor tummy upset but see what your vet says, especially if it is an ongoing/rucurring thing. the loss will certainly have not helped the immune system.
