I've just noticed during floor time while sweeping up poop that my six year old female had a mucas type substance on one of her poos. It was sticky/stringy. There wasn't much and it hasn't been on any of her other poos that I've noticed in the cage.
She's pooing as much as normal, no change in appetite, is drinking more but as it's summer she usually does.
I inspect almost all of the poo I sweep out of her cage and keep an extra eye on her. I lost her cage mate a few weeks ago which was absolutely devastating. She was also six and they were always together. Her cage mate went down hill fast and also had mucus/stringy poo when she became sick. We were back and forth the vets so much, we tried absolutely everything and they seemed clueless as to what was wrong. I've seen so many vets (20? Maybe more) over the years and be back and forth with minor problems like UTIS and URIs and the vets have always been mostly clueless. I'm absolutely terrified to see mucus in her poo. I'll obviously take her to the vet tomorrow and I always take their advice. But as my previous guinea pig was put to sleep and I never knew what caused it. I'm so scared. Does anyone have any clue what could possibly cause mucus/sticky poo?
Any thoughts would be helpful.
I'm also weighing her and she's still eating her pellets and hay and veg as normal. I'm just really anxious that once again the vet won't know
I'm based in Cardiff and have probably visited most vets here at some point.
Thank you
