Hi i have a 1 1/2 year old himalayan g pig.the last few days he has not been himself.he is eating a little but not as much as usual.last nite i noticed that he looked like he was trying to be sick.when i went to him this am he had all mucus down his chin.it it not from his nose and he isnt sneezing.his fur looks graesy and is ruffled.about an hour ago he was wretching again and had mucus coming out of his mouth.he has an app at vets at 3.30pm today, just wondered if anyone knew what this was in case the vet dont know.also some time ago he had a funny turn i thought he was gonna die,he had blue lips and nose very lethargic labored breathing and flinching eyes like he was having some sort of fit,vet couldnt see nuffin wrong the next day as he was completly normal, could this be connected matbe a heart complaint i have looked on guinea lynx with no joy.please reply asap.julie.

Hi Julie,

The drooling could be associated with the teeth. I would ask the vet to check all the teeth out. Blue lips does sound heart related. If he isn't eating ask vet for some critical care and syringes to be fed every 2 hours.

Keep us posted!

they have back teeth which you cannot see, only the vet can by looking down their throat with a special instrument. I had 2 piggys when i was very young and didnt know better die because of overgrown teeth.

I would take him to the vet, they will be able to determine if its teeth or something else.

Back teeth would cause this problem. Guineas cant be sick as you know but the drool is causing him to wretch perhaps and give the impression of being sick.

The vet to look at back teeth will use a tool to open the mouth I dont know the name of it at the top of my head but thats how the back teeth are checked. :)

thanx

ok thanx to all who answered he is going to the vet at 3.30 today so i will let you all kno what the vet says.thnx again, julie.

Oh bless him it just sounds like what Murphy had when he came to me. He was wretching making an awful noise and gunk was coming out of his mouth. It was green coloured i thought long and hard about what it could be and we thought it could be curly kale.

He had one more episode of this happening after about a month when i tried him on kale again. Each time i took him to the vet and had to feed him on Science Recovery food first time for 5 days second for only two.

As soon as we had him neutered and Romey came to live with him it never happend again and he now eats kale no problem. The vet checked everything nothing was wrong so we put it down to heaving hiccups which seemed to go away once he had some company.

Hope your little man gets better soon. I know how scarey it is cos you know they cant be sick but they make all the nosies like they are.

Will you let me know what your Vet says as I'm interested to know what he/she says.
