Sorry, something a bit out of left field here but I need to do MRSA swabs, likely as part of the pre-op on Thursday. I can probably get them sent off come Monday, Royal Mail do whatever they call that service where they'll pick up a parcel for posting directly from my front door so I won't have to go anywhere, but is there any point in doing said swabs before tomorrow then? Because there's no getting them sent off before Monday, so I'd assume it's similar to the Covid tests that way.

The letter makes no mention of this at all, to be clear, just "do it and return it as soon as possible".

I'm thinking I'll just leave it. There's nothing mentioning it in any of the emails (3 PDFs and a .docx, lol), so I'll assume tomorrow.

I've had the swabs done for several hospitals in Manchester, never had MRSA but I get the caution. You'd just think they'd mention this at some stage, especially knowing that box was never going to turn up before the weekend.

MRSA will be a more postal-service stable test than covid- covid tests from swabs looked for RNA which degrades rapidly at room temp, so needed to be processed within 24 hours. An MRSA test will look for live bacteria and/or DNA- which should survive or be detectable after a week or two in an envelope or postbox.
But swabbing just before posting makes good sense, for any medical test- fresher is better.

If I end up going with Royal Mail collecting it from the house I'll do the swabs tomorrow night. The usual post run is ~10:30 to 11am, a pick up might be later on, but I'd rather not risk sleeping in and missing my chance.

That sounds perfect - you won’t be in a rush and it’s a great service from Royal Mail.

yeah, otherwise my nearest post box is the post office itself and that's not exactly next door.

"Sorry we can't accept Covid-19 home test kits with our Parcel Collect service."

Remind me to have a very, very polite chat with Royal Mail tomorrow morning to let them know it's not a Covid test, lol.

Edit: and that their own damn website says that actually, the Parcel Collect service CAN be used on Covid tests, which still doesn't matter, but really. Royal Mail? Really?!

Oh ffs !!

Spoke to Royal Mail, they have no idea, and I'm supposed to ring the Parcel Collect service helpline directly.
But I've realised there's an issue with the swabs (don't ask) and I need to speak to the hospital first. Of course nobody's answering the phone at the hospital.
Also I'm supposed to rearrange with Leeds and "our phonelines are currently closed. Our lines will reopen from 10am to 2pm, Monday to Friday."

I'm ignoring my phone for half an hour.

So the saga begins ……good luck and take lots of deep breaths …..and keep smiling 😂

Oh I am very, very good at ignoring my phone lol. It's a running gag that I never answer it (it's always on silent) and it'd be on silent now except I'm waiting on a call ~3pm. So instead I've switched off the data and wifi and tossed it on my bed. I'll find it when it rings :))
