Hi all!
Well On the advice of a small local pet shop our piggies were bedded on dust extracted woodchip. Well over 3 weeks Loki has had crusty eye problems. Still eating fine - no redness or swelling just constantly crusty or dripping wet. We had 2 different eye drops from the vets before it was suggested we bed them on newspaper and hay for the time being to see if it was woodchip could be irritating her.
Well within 3 days of switching the crusty ness has gone and she has bright shiny eyes this morning! Will continue cleaning them with cooled boiled water for a bit to make sure x
Anyway I have been reading lots of threads and have decided to order some fitch.
Has anyone else experienced a similar reaction to woodchip? Is fitch less dusty than woodchip?!
Thanks x

I used fitch for a while, as one of my pigs similar to yours has real bad dust allergies, but he also is sensitive to hay so i couldn't use that for bedding. Fitch is definitely 100% less dusty than wood shavings.

I ended up on fleece in the end though as i found fitch was a little too absorbent, which sounds crazy, but one of my pigs was a real dribbler with his bottle and literally would poor half his bottle out on the floor when he drank, the fitch would just soak it all up which was great but it would leave a huge patch of the cage soaked through, and the patch wasn't little, it would really spread.

Other than that i loved it, it was soft, comfortable and really cosy, at one point my pigs were pushing it to the side of their igloos during the hottest parts of summer and sleeping on the cage base because they were just that warm in the bedding.

I know lots of people use fitch it's a great bedding so hopefully it works for you.

I have to change to Fitch for the same reason. When I first got Albie he had a snoty nose and meds didn't help. I have tried fleece but didn't like it. Fitch is great, not dust at all, super easy to clean and looks nice too. 1 big bag last my just over 2 months and that for a 150cm cage. The only thing I don't like is that you can only order it on line.

I use fitch and love it, i have also used fleece but due to the number of rescue guineas i have it just gets too much to keep spot cleaning and the washing load.

That's great thanks for your replies! Did wonder about fleece but as my guineas are outside I was unsure. Hopefully my fitch will arrive soon and lily and Loki will enjoy it! X

I use finacard in the litter trays and in my other animal cages.Used dust extracted shavings but they made my nose itch
