Hi, I have two male guinea pigs, Sammy and Ollie who are 1.5 years old. They currently live inside the house in a 4x3 c&c cage with a second level. I've recently been thinking about how to provide them with more space. I don't really have any more space inside to give them and I've recently thought about buying a garden shed and converting it for them.
As I said above they are 1.5 years old and have been kept inside since I got them when they were 6 weeks old. Would they get on ok outside? Does anyone else on here keep guinea pigs in a shed, and how do they get on?

Again the only reason I'm thinking about moving them outside is purely in order to provide them with more space so I would still want the shed to be warm and comfortable for them

I would appreciate any tips on the best way to achieve this.

Thank you:)

If you have a 4x3 cage then they have already got plenty of space! That's 12 square feet ! The minimum for two Guinea Pig's is 7.5 and the preferred is 10. But if you do move them outside make sure the shed is completely draft free and obviously weather proof. Also make sure they have lots of hay at night and also buy them a Heatpad from P@H, it's a microwaveable heatpad that you warm up in the microwave and keeps them warm at night.

My girls were moved from an inside cage to a double decker hutch in the shed. It's a lot better for them as it's a lot quieter in there. It's got electric so it's lit and warm. I can sit in there and spend plenty of quality time with them when I want to escape from the house. ;)

My four Piggies live out doors in a shed. It has 2 plugs, a light and lino on the floor. It doesn't make much difference in heat so long as it is well insulated and they have lots of fleece beds in their cage. I think it's a great way to give them lots of space, my cage has been extended over the months to cater for the growing number of pigs :(|) Also if your worried about them being cold you can give them a 'animal heat pad'. You just microwave it for about eight minutes then it lasts almost all night :laluot_28:
