Hello piggy lovers!
Due to unfortunate circumstances, I'm moving back to my mums who has been kind enough to allow me to bring my five girls with me on the condition they live outside.

My mum owns a cat so ive ordered a sturdy shed to put them in so the girls have extra security and safety and I will be making sure there is no way of entrance of any kind of animal.

I was wondering if anyone has any tips and advice to move them outside.

Should I give more materials to cuddle and comfort such as warm fleece and more hay? I ensured the shed has a window and they have a play pen so still get floor time..

Any advice?

I've been thinking about moving my girls outside to due to my serve allergies and then living in my bedroom (not the best set up really!)

Personally, I would wait until the weather got warm before moving them outside. Then you can move them out gradually, leaving them out for longer periods each day before finally leaving them in the shed all night. I'd suggest having them on bedding and stuffing any hidey boxes full of hay to keep them warm. If you have the hutch in a shed, you could try insulating the shed or putting a thick blanket over the hutch to keep the heat in. Many people also use heat pads or hot water bottles wrapped in thick cloth to add some extra warmth in the cold months.

I hope this helped.

A shed is a good compromise for people who can't keep guinea pigs indoors. I am not a fan of keeping guinea pigs in outdoor hutches ( I know some people do - but not me !).

A shed provides protection from predators, wet weather and draughts .

My guinea pigs are kept in hutch in a shed. My shed has electricity so I can keep them warm in winter with an oil filled radiator. As above poster has said, you can use heatpads to keep them warm too

Be careful with sheds in summer though - even with windows, they can get very hot in the sunny weather,

I had to move mine indoors last year when we had a heatwave - fortunately, my OH was away at the time !

As long as they stay warm and free from damp and drafts they'll be fine. My group of piggies live in a shed. They have biocatlet cat litter and aubiose/shavings on the top layer. Then fleece all downstairs.
