My girls are currently kept in the spare bedroom but we have space to keep them in our living room/kitchen. I'd love for them to get used to us more, because they scatter as soon as you enter the room, but I'm worried we might be too loud for them.

Does anyone else have their Guinea Pigs in their living area? How do the pigs react to constant noise and people presence?

My pigs are on the floor in the corner of my living room. How my apartment is set up you have to walk by the cage to pretty much get anywhere in the house. They were moved to here form my bedroom when we expanded their cage. They hid a lot the first week. They still scatter if you make a quick movement over the cage or if the cats surprise them but have stayed out while I dropped a metal bowls right next to their cage. They are certainty becoming more accustoms to the sounds and more used to and comfortable with us.

My pigs are in the living room - it's great -they only scatter when you sneeze really loudly -

I second the opinions above - having the pigs in the kitchen or the living room is the best, because it means more interaction and quality time.

I think they like the kitchen better - it's strategically close to the fridge.

I've moved them into the kitchen side of our living area but our living room is in the same space so there should always be some kind of noise from the TV or us talking. I'm hoping it will give my boyfriend a chance to bond with them too.

Ours have always been in a corner of the living room and initially I think they found it totally overwhelming.
But now they love it, and the minute we enter the room they race to the front of the cage looking around and wheeking.
I think it really does feel like they are part of the family, and sometimes I think it is almost easier for them to be surrounded by a constant low level noise and bustle than to have total quiet, and then at random times someone bursting into their space.

Mine are in the kitchen and i keep the cage very open deliberately (there is one little cosy but no other places to hide at all) benson is 4 so he is super calm and used to all sounds, never flinches at anything.

Mike we've only had a month. He is still a bit skittish with sudden sounds like sneezing or a door banging but he's getting loads better
one sound he doesn't like is me brushing spilled hay off the kitchen floor which is odd because i do that so frequently
