Senior Guinea Pig
We are contemplating moving two of our boars into the pen that has housed our herd of girls - reasons purely being the girls house is high and recently, I'm struggling to clean them out on my own as OH is working away a lot atm...
They have to be deep cleaned at least twice a week and have 7ft of space, an upper level with a double ramp with hideys all vet bedded etc.
It is straining my shoulders and arms and feels like constant toothache cleaning them out as the pen is wide too, I'm 5ft 4", OH is 6ft 6" so usually sees to the girls as it a piece of cake for him rolleyes
Plan A in mind would be to move Frankie and Benny up into the girls pen, (both neutered) and are extremely laid back boys - pen would be thoroughly cleaned before putting them in, could pop them into a 5ft cage for a day/overnight to ensure all traces of smell etc. has been hopefully eliminated.
This would then mean the two other boys, Chops and Harley would have the girls next door :{ Pens are separated by mesh grids, OH says he can replace them and put thick pieces of wood in place of grids but the pens are open plan so am now concerned the intact boys may smell the girls.
Plan B would be to move Chops and Harley instead but as they are intact, worry any 'lady odours' in the pen would present issues :...The herd currently live above Chops and Harley and are oblivious to their presence
The herd would then have a double level pen, both levels 6ft long...is this big enough for 6 girls as they would be losing around a foot in space or could modify and take possibly a foot from Chops and Harley's pen - the boys are two years young this month and really do not use all of the space.
Would welcome your views on this please
