Larry ( 8 Months ) And Garry ( 3 Months ) have just joined us and are doing well.

However tonight garry kept trying to ' Hump ' ( Mount ) Larry.

Larry is just ignoring him but its kind of upsetting , is this normal of not ?

Kind of looks like garry is feeling really horney as hes ' trying it on ' with larry.

Any ideas ?

Cheers , Tommo

Mum said if it carries on for an hour would having a divide for a hour or so calm it down

This is normal dominance behaviour, piggie girls do it too, they are sorting out the "boss" pig :)

It's nothing to worry about as long as they are both eating, drinking etc & they don't bite or draw blood, they will settle down eventually once they grow up a little; they are having their teenage years lol!

Do not worry. This is normal for piggies. My girls do it too. It is their way of showing who is boss. I know it does look awful. If you separate them they will only carry on when they are back together so there is no point.

Mounting is perfectly normal, do not seperate as it will disrupt the bonding ritual and could make it worse.

We have two boars too. Don't worry, this is normal dominance behaviour and if they didn't do it it would be strange.

At their ages, they will begin to have hormone issues. Pubity in male guinea pigs starts between 3 and 5 months and continues until between 12 and 14 months of age. During this phase, you will get modd swings and all manner of behavioural issues. It is difficult to tell what is just hormones and what are the signs of a real breakdown in their relationship but there are a lot of post and threads on here describing much of boar behaviour.

I have been through pretty much the lot with our two so don't be afraid to ask if something is concerning you :)

Best of luck and I'm sure you'll be providing the best possible happy home for these two miscreants!

Yes, don't split them up, it will be very annoying for a few days as they will do it pretty much constantly - but if you do they might not go back together, plus it will continue when you do put them back together.

Its usual dominance behaviour. Please dont split them. They will calm themselves down and sort out whos boss.
My girls mount one another during being in season and my neutered boar does too. Its normal.
