I'd noticed a number of small moths in my home recently and my neighbour had commented on the same a few days ago and I thought nothing of it, and just said I hope there's none of their grubs chewing at my carpet. Last Friday I was hoovering the carpet in the small bedroom and shuddered and said rude words, yes there was proof they had been enjoying the carpet. Needless to say, the room has now got bare floorboards and every time I think of it my skin itches. Yuk
Has anyone else seen more moths than usual or are they just attracted to my house?

Yes, it’s that time of year. We got moths a few years back, quite horrid, I’m not sure where they came from but it involved a lot of hoovering especially around the skirting boards to kill any caterpillars and placing moth traps around one particular room. We also had a plaque if small caterpillars climbing the walls in the piggie room once, they were coming out of the hay, a loose hay bale bought from local farm. We ended up bining the hay as there was so many of them but at least they didn’t eat any fabrics or carpets

Moths have been bad this year. Where I work, we've people coming and getting moth repellent even tho they have never had any and now they are everywhere.

I’m so sorry. Yes a few years ago we noticed a lot more moths than usual in our house. I ignored them for a while until I just couldn’t ignore the fact that actually there was quite a few. So I went on a bug hunt. I moved some bedroom furniture and the carpet was actually bare underneath it! 😔

We had them (the larvae) in every room that had nice expensive woollen carpet (4 bedrooms). So we cut all of the edges of carpet away and sprayed moth killer a few times. Ripped up all the carpets and then bought cheaper polyester carpets and it’s been fine ever since. Good luck. I hope iIt’s not so bad for you. 🤞🏻

Polyester carpets? Thanks for that info. I didn't know they don't find polyester appetising, so that is the type of carpet I will look for. The bare floorboards look horrible and must be covered as the winter drafts will come through them.
Moth killer will be top of my shopping list this week. !

Ugh! I hate moths! I'm terrified of the little critters. 😫
Sorry to hear they've been munching on your carpet. I've heard that lavender and cedar wood are natural scents that moths hate. Hope that helps.

Yes, they love wool carpets! I had a lovely Cashmere wooden jumper in a drawer and they ruined that too. Put all your favourite clothes in a vacuumn packed bag and a Moth Killer Paper inside to keep them safe. Lavender bags are good, cedar wood balls and Moth spray around all the skirting boards as this is where we found most of the moth grubs. The old fashion Moth Balls work well too although they do smell like old ladies wardrobes (that’s because the older generation always used hem in their wardrobes 😆 I remember my grandma!) Also wash and freeze for 24 hours to remove any suspected eggs on towels or bedding

OMG moth balls! that takes me back! :yikes: i remember getting on buses with my mum years ago and the smell of moth balls hovering around old ladies - the smell stays with you for hours lol. Thanks for the info too

Oh my gosh I’m glad it’s not just me. The moths have been horrendous this year. Our kitchen has been INFESTED with them. 10 or more every night. Gods know where they’re coming from because the doors and windows are kept shut. I try my best to think every creature deserves its life but I really wish moths would just live their deserving lives outside my home 🤢

Yes, I remember both my grannies wardrobes sticking if moth balls but they do work!

I hoover up every moth I find with a hand held hoover and release them to fly away outside. I've had loads this year. Son No 2 actually moved from his shared house in Ealing to a small tenement flat in Camden as his Landlord would do nothing about the carpet moths chomping on the carpet and his clothes. He had to get vacuum bags from Amazon to store his clothes in after he had frozen them to kill off the moth eggs.

Yes vacuum bags are a Godsend. I haven’t had many this year so far 🤞Regular vacuuming is suppose to kill off the grubs, so note to myself - more housework required to keep them away 😁
