So it's been several weeks since I last posted a update on Mortys foot 😫 all was going well me and vet thought k-laser was bring the swelling down nicely. Morts been having laser on his foot twice a week for what seems forever and he's on baytril 1.2ml and is on inflacam anyway last night he sudden stopped using his hind legs and started dragging them so managed to see our vet today who got him xrayed to see if he's spine issue had gotten use or his bladder had formed a stone etc.. turned out the bumble foot has eating 60% of his metacarpal due to the infection also she mentioned there is fusing happening making it impossible to remove that problem area alone due to nerve and blood supply so last resort might be a leg amputation at the moment Morts on Buprenorphine, Emeprid, Cisapride, Herbivore care, Azithromycin (hope it works).. My insurance only started in Nov and we're almost maxed 😶 Just hope our little man will be ok

I'm really sorry!
I know what you're battling, because Billie also suffers from bumble foot.
All the best for your little boy! 🍀

I am so very sorry. You are really having a bad ride with poor Morty!

It is always a huge concern that a bad bumblefoot infection can get into the bone; which generally means an amputation if possible. :(

Thank you. Just so fed up as we all thought we got on top of it. She mentioned something about trying antibiotic impregnated beads if he can't handle this antibiotic that h e's on at the moment which has caused gas to form in his stomach but we've got two lots of meds for that and he's pooped like a trooper since he got back from vets.

Fingers firmly crossed for Morty!

UPDATE:

Morty is having two toes amputed on Tuesday 😭

Good luck Morty. Sending healing vibes this sorts the problem out. 🤞

Poor Morty :( I'm sorry you are both having such a tough time. I know it isn't nice but I hope having the two toes amputated will help x
I really hope so, I'm so worried either I lose him or if he does make it what if he gets bumblefoot again. I've rechanged his whole home everything is guinea dad fleece and vet bedding, I'm got him a weight 1560g to 1300g to help.

I am very sorry and I am keeping my fingers firmly crossed for him.
Here is our post-op care advice in case it is needed: Tips For Post-operative Care

If it is any consolation to you, I know of a number amputated rescue piggies that are nevertheless living a full and normal life.

Just caught up here.
So sorry that Marty’s bumble foot is causing such concern.
He’s very lucky to have such a caring owner.
Hope all goes well.

Update:

Mortys operation went amazing. Went in at 9am yesterday and home by 5:30pm. They managed to remove only two toes and keep the whole leg. He was very out of it yesterday (like we are after ops) but today he's a trooper. He's eating, walking and annoying his smaller cage mate. He does have straining pain while pooping but he's still getting over gut issue from a reaction to an antibiotic he was given last week I think :hmm:Here's a video of him from earlier.

Update

Sorry for not posting sooner on Morts progress but it's been a rollecoster since he had part of his foot removed. Recovery was tough. He was losing alot of weight from 1600g to1150g within a few short weeks, wasn't eating, pooping well etc but he pushed through it all and now is 1400g+ walking on his paw with the help of gabapentin, laser therapy and meloxidyl. He's a very happy boy once again. Sorry for the bad pics of his foot but he's a worm.
