as if having my Barbie ill isn't enough, this morning during the cage clean out I found maggots! >>>
During the summer I do a full cage clean out every other day and spot clean daily, so on Thursday everything seemed fine and I did my normal clean out. Today I found maggots. We have fly screens and I have a fly squat at the ready for any that get in so I have no idea how this happened.
The result was complete panic. I thoroughly checked both girls especially around their bottom area. Thankfully they seem fine. My husband moved the cage out to the balcony and we went to the pet shop and bought a 120 cm cage (with money we don't have so thankfully it wasn't that expensive). The previous one, homemade wooden, was around 180 cm I think.
I have bleached the wooden one, washed it out with the hose pipe and left it to dry and there is still the occasional maggot crawling out of the joint between the floor and side. mallethead. Anyone got any idea how to ensure there are no eggs or maggots left?
Maybe having a wooden cage in this weather is not a very good idea because of all the cracks and joints that are hard to clean, but i'm not very happy with the reduced space for my girls.
Ahhh I don't know what to do.
