They treated for mites in January of this year with ivermectin, but it appears to have now returned. Is it okay to re-treat with ivermectin? Once a week for 4 weeks? Neither of them have any symptoms other than itching.

Bijou has them most visible while Bode doesn't seem to have many. But I plan to treat both.

Thank you in advance!

Hi

This looks like hay mites (chirodiscoides caviae), indeed.

If you wish, you can cut the affected hairs with the egg cases off. It is unsightly but it means that you slash the number of mites that will lay more eggs right down and have less to kill chemically. The hair will grow back within a month.

I just made a haircut on Bijou, now I am doing on Bode. Do you think the heat increase the number of mites? I don't leave the air conditioning on all day, but I'm thinking about doing so.

Hay is going to be a big problem... This brand of hay was the best I found till now (cleanest and greenest), the others are full of twigs, insects and a strange color 🙁

I would be careful with the air conditioning that they don't take too much of a cold, either; especially not with short hairs.

All the best. Very sorry about the hay. :(

I'm trying to adjust the room temperature to the appropriate temperature for them, but when I turn it off sometimes I find it gets a bit warm so I am afraid they get too hot 🙁 I live in a very hot country...

Very hard to find good hay... I'm already ordering it from the other side of my country...

Thank you for helping me ❤️

In that case, they are likely going to enjoy the relief of less hair...

Very sorry about the hay. It can be very difficult to find good hay in some countries. :(
