if I'm honest i dont know what they look like on Guinea pigs but today i noticed some black scabs on Joey and wonder if this is mites? i am aware that Guinea Pigs are prone to mites what do yous think? i can take a few pictures if that will be better or if someone already has pictures of mites that would be handy to. i can get Joey to the vets tomorrow if need be :)

I've a limited experience with mites I would say they are yellow and the pig can get scabby at the rump but maybe they are different for others. What about lice?

yeah can we see pics? umm i'd see a vet though they can definitely confirm if it's mites or just scabs (wounds) is he in with any other piggies? If it is mites he'll need some ivomectin and so will any other piggies he's with O0

Mites are not external parasites so cannot be seen with the naked eye as they burrow under the guinea pigs skin O0
Does sound like mites though - if you can see things on him then it may be lice :)
Mites will need to be treated with ivermectin as suggested by the vets - can be done orally or by injection about 3 times over a period of every week or so O0

yeah if you can see little white moving things, thats lice, my poor bubs lilly and rosie have that but are getting treated O0 if they are bumps then it sounds like mites O0 i'd see a vet :smitten:

i cant see anything moving :o hes in with Roo at the moment but these scabs are pitch black at first i though fleas but the black scab wasnt alive when i went in for a closer look. the black scabs dont look like injury wounds thats the thing :-\ i think the scabs would be dark red not pitch black will get a few pictures for you the scabs are near his back end :-\ will deffinatly get him checked at the vets tomorrow for a check up.

will get some pictures now :-\
