I have just noticed a ring around my guinea pigs eye. It is only on the left side and she is showing no signs of discomfort. My other guinea pig hasn’t been affected at all by this. Could it be mites? A skin infection? What is it?

Hi and welcome

Please see a vet for potential ringworm and take the time to read the guide links below, which also contain information on your customer rights and vet cost refunding practice in the case of newly bought (already infected) guinea pigs.

Ringworm is the most contagious and species jumping problem (including humans and other pets) you can come across, so your good hygiene measures are key since invisibly tiny ringworm spores can stay live for around 2 years or even a little more. Scanting on the hygiene can easily turn this into a long running nightmare.

Please accept that we cannot reliably diagnose remotely just from a picture and that we cannot replace any necessary vet care. We can only show up likely avenues and when to seek vet care for a hands-on examination.
