i took my guineapig parsnip to the vet today after noticing a v-shaped hairloss on his back that had been getting progressively worse. it has gotten better and is slowly growing back but it still concerned me so i took him to the vet because i had read that this vshaped hairloss is common in pigs that have mites.
she told me that it is probably just a reaction to the baytril injection that he had a few weeks ago because there isnt any dandruff and his cagemate isnt experiencing hair loss.
thanks in advance for any replies. :-)))

Update just in case anyone sees this in the future and has a similar problem with their guinea, I took them to a different vet and she says they have mites and they are currently on ivermectin.
Glad you took him for a second opinion. It is common for pigs to have mites without having dandruff. Also while companion pigs will most likely have them too, they may not be as badly affected so not have symptoms (although these can develop with time)
