I took my piggies to the vets today because Inca had a little scabby patch on her back end which after looking at posts here i thought could have been mites. Helga and Rascal don't have any scabs but i took them as well as i've read on here that they should all be treated. Anyway the vet was going to give them shots of ivomec but i asked her if they do a spot on treatment as it would be less stressfull. She hadn't heard of it so she went and asked a colleague and came back with some spot on stuff and gave them a tube each on the back of the neck and down the spine in a couple of places. She said this is a wormer as well and that i don't need to take them all back for another treatment, but if Inca's scabs don't go then to take just her back.
I was very pleased with the price as well.....it cost me £18 to get all 3 treated. I suppose thats the difference between country vets who don't rely on small animals for a living as city vets do.

What i was wanting to know is......was she right saying they don't need more treatments (as she didn't seem to know about the stuff in the first place)
Is there anything else i can do?

And i also want to say how great you lot with the knowledge are on this site because without all the great advice i've read on here over the last few days i would have just let her give them stressfull injections and i wouldn't have known how important it was to get her to the vet before it became very sore and irritating for her and out of control.
THANK YOU O0 :smitten: ;D

They will need a second treatment in 10 days to kill any mites that may have hatched from eggs after the first treatment.Ivermectin is not affective against worms but as this is rare in gps anyway,it does not matter.

ok, thanks, i'll make another appointment for her soon. Is the spot on stuff Ivomectin as well then?

Hopefully it is or something similar to ivermectin called selamectin. Hopefully your vet knows what they were doing but I would always check what something is before I allowed it to be put on my piggy.

Neem products are fantastic for mites, I swear by it, Its soothing for the piggys sore and acts as a barrier against more nasty unwanted creepies!

The vet that came back in with my vet checked out the scabby area to make sure it wasn't an open wound before the stuff was put on said she kept pigs herself and she always used it so i suppose i trusted her judgment but then she went back off to her own patients. I'm sure she said to me to go back for another treatment, but the vet i had was polish and we wern't communicating to easily. I asked her if i should go back and she said no and i asked her again at the reception as i paid and she still said i shouldn't go back unless the scab didn't go away so this is why i wasn't sure about if i should go back and asked here.
