Nancy has been at the vets today. During a procedure (she was under anathestic for an x-ray) she has lost one of her top incisor teeth so she has 1 still left up top. Do She is finding eating hard. She has managed a little bit of lettuce, she won't eat corinador (which is out of character) and she has attempted hay and given up. We haven't been home yet long mind. Is there specific food I can put out she would find easier to eat please? She looks sore so I'm assuming it's pain as well as not being used to it. I do also have some burgess dual care in just incase.

As she is struggling to eat hay you need to step in and syringe feed her - as hay is 80% of the food intake, without it she needs help. The syringe feed is going to take the place of hay until the tooth comes back and/or she learns to pick up hay herself with it missing. Make sure you weigh her daily so you can ensure she is getting enough syringe feed each day to keep her weight stable.

Veg wise, keep offering it to her, you may need to hand feed all her veg to her so that you can pass it into her mouth. Veg such peppers can be cut into match stick pieces.

Is she on pain meds?

How long after she's been back do I need to decide she needs to be syringe fed? I'm hoping if she settles will keep trying. She's on dog metacam once a day. She had a dose this evening at the vets before she came home.

*I'm hoping if she settles she will keep trying to eat. I'm wondering about offering mushy pellets.

I think she's getting a hang of hay already. I kept lifting the hay pile she's in to tempt with veggies. And now I can hear munching. Can't see what's going in as she's hidden but this is a good sign.

Thats good. Weigh her first thing in the morning and then each morning from then on.
Don’t forget hay is the most important part so she needs to be eating it - if she isn’t then you need to offer support feeding to replace/top up hay intake and keep her weight stable.
