Hi, I'm thinking of building another cage with a lower surrounding wall. The current cage wall is 40cm all around. How low can I go before there's a strong chance the pigs will jump out?

It really depends on the pigs and the height of the cage. If the pigs are quite good jumpers I would keep it around 30cm. If not, then you could probably go into the 20s if they're not too bothered about getting out of their cage. Also, if you are thinking of raising the cage up I doubt they would try and jump out. My piggies are in a 35cm high cage and they never even put their paws up on the bars so I seriously doubt they would jump out!

It depends on the pigs really. 25- 30cm sounds reasonable for most pigs but if you have one like my Angus who frequently used to clear 30cm grids and beetle off down the hall looking smug, then you might need to stick with higher....

I think he is a one-off though :) When we made the pen higher I once came into the room to find him hanging over the top of the grids on his belly, looking at me as if to say ' damn it she's caught me - quick, look innocent and maybe she won't notice...' So now our play pen is over 50cm high and I can only just step over it! That's one of the reasons we don't have C&C as he'd never be in the thing when you came home!
