Minimum cage recommendation for 3 pigs?

I am thinking of adding a third pig to my two girls (a neutered boar), however I am aware that I will need a bigger cage.

Am I right in thinking that the recommended minimum cage size is 5ft by 2ft?

I have no idea what sort of size that is as most cage dimensions are given in centimetres on the website, so using an online converter i think that converts to 152.4cm by 60.96cm.

If that is right, then the Rabbit 120 is too small, which I know is a popular choice for people.
Does anyone have any other cage recommendations?

I have actually rehomed two girls from RSPCA before, which then made a trio in my current cage which I now think is too small. RSPCA werent too bothered though!

60x150 cm is indeed the equivalent of 2x5 ft.

Alternatively, you can think about building a 2x4 grid C&C cage; it has about the same space (just over 1m sq) as a 2x5 ft cage as the grids are a bit larger than one foot. 2x4 grids C&C do come to about a space of 70x140 cm. But of course, you can easily add a hayloft for even more space!

Hmmm, I have considered the C&C grids, the only thing is I was hoping to get the cage to fit in the same spot that their current cage stays in! I would need the stand to do that, but they are in quite a small room, which is the boiler room. Its tiny but keeps their cage nicely next to the kitchen! I was hoping they could go in there.

How tall are each of the grids? I may have to rethink!

Also looked at the nero which is again too small! C&C idea seems the best so far..

hi the grids are 14 inches square or 35cm square:)

Hahah, oh yeah what a daft question, silly me!

Thank you!

Right I'm off to measure the space beneath the shelves in the boiler room... If anyone has any cage recommendations that are not too small for pigs, please still let me know! I'm still open to options at this stage!

Brill, its pretty much the same aside from a few cm and cheaper too!

I will have to have a word with my dad and see if we can get rid of the shelves in the boiler room so we can fit it in there. That means offloading the rubbish from in there too!

I'm sure he will be pleased, lol

Just a thought. If you have the chance, don't buy an expensive cage that will just fit them. You may regret it, get a new flat with more room, fall for another girl etc, and then you have an expensive cage that you wish were bigger. With a C&C it's easier to change your mind!

I actually live in a house but although its 3 bedroom there still seems to be limited space! lol
I do think the C&C idea is probably the best to be honest, I'd still need to clear the shelves and other clutter as well, and theyd have a whole room to themselves! As I still live with my parents I do need to double check with them first though. And as we keep them on hay at the moment, they would probably need to make the switch to fleece with the c&c.

Any idea where I can get the grids from?

Costco seems to be cheap and easy if you know someone with a membership

People get correx from teacrate somethingrather... There's a cupon code too, Search on the site and you'll find it, or PM JoanneG!

Thank you so much, there is a costco not far from me, didnt know you had to be a member though!

just out of interest... what is the ideal cage size for 2 pigs?

Ours is currently 100cm by 50cm, I want to upgrade anyway as it is yeeears old

might be worth a visit then.

i think its 120 by 60 for 2 piggies. which is 4ft by 2ft:)

ideal for two is a 2x4 I think. Two old and lazy pigs (like my Martha) may be fine in a 2x3, while more athletic pigs like more room.

If space is an issue check out Lisajazz or Wiebkes towers. I think the footprint of those is just a 2x4, but they have three /four floors so room for lots of pigs! Laura has two trippledecker 2x5s. Check out the cage threads and the gallery for ideas!

They do seem fine in it at the moment but I would like it if they had more space, even if another piggie wasnt added!

Ill check out the housing thread now, thank you
