So I have been away with work for three days and my OH has been in charge of piggy care. I noticed that Milo had a tiny scab on his mouth last night when I did his meds. I took a quick look at his teeth (didn't poke around) and his incisors were nice and level so I wasn't too worried.

However, this morning he was struggling to pick up his veggies but still eating hay. So I took a closer look and touched the incisor on the side where the scab was and found that it is loose. I have no idea what is wrong but my vet has fitted him in as an emergency this morning at 10.30.

We cut some veggies into thin strips and hand fed him those which he ate with enthusiasm so at least he hasn't lost his appetite. Wish us luck at the vets as typically this has happened in the run up to us going on holiday.

Back from the vets. Milo has broken off his incisor at the gum, the vet pulled gently and it came out. His lip is a little bruised so we can only assume that he ran into something in the cage. Maud was in season this week so maybe he got a little carried away chasing her.

Metacam for a couple days and we need to check that his bottom incisors stay level as the missing one grows back.

Poor Milo. Hope it grows back quickly. These things tend to happen at the most inconvenient time. Ie right before a holiday 🙁

Hope you can get away without worrying too much about it. Enjoy your break.

I hope Milo will be able to eat in his own soon again.
I have had quite a few broken incisors during the years. Usually the tooth grows back quickly and it's no big deal. Fingers crossed that Milo's tooth will be back to normal soon.
My piggies learned pretty quickly to eat with just 3 incisors.

So this morning we have found the other top incisor is also loose. We have no idea what has caused this. Milo is still eating and hasn't lost any weight so we are hoping that he will be ok until Tuesday, as our vet only has emergency cover this weekend from an out of hours service. I don't like to take him to a vet who probably is guinea pig savvy. I will keep an eye on him and if he shows any signs of distress I will of course take him.

I'm just hoping that there isn't some underlying issue.

It great he’s still eating ok. Fingers crossed they both grow back soon.

He may just have run into something or fallen off something he likes to climb on. As it is both teeth that does suggest he is more likely to have has had knock of some kind, rather than the possibility of something more serious brewing. If he likes to chew bars it is also a possibility he could have damaged them that way if he had got his face stuck and panicked.
Hopefully he will be just fine

ive had boars who had a fight that resulted in knocking one boars insciors out.The insciors grew back in 10 days.i hope your boars insciors grow back without any dramas.i used to chop the veg into small stripps and cubes.

I'm just a little worried that his bottom incisors could overgrow while the new top ones are growing back.

Thanks Eileen. I have been hand feeding him strips of veg as he struggles to pick it up. I will weigh him each day and step in with syringe feeding if he loses any weight.

They won't grow to a point of causing problems in the short time it will take the top ones to reappear. Sometime ago I had a piggy who permanently lost his bottom incisors due to a jaw abscess. His top ones then needed burring back just every 5 weeks to keep them in check. Once Milo's teeth start to wear again they will quickly sort themselves out

The other incisor has fallen out today. Milo seems happy enough. I gave him his veggies cut into thin sticks and separated him from the girls while he ate. Hay doesn't seem to be a problem. I will keep a close eye on him.
It’s amazing how they cope. My Bill often broke his incisors but never had any problems eating at all x

Good luck Milo, a few years ago our Brwsi/Crumble had a fall and his top two teeth came out. Amazing how they grow back and thankfully all straight and never seemed to bother him - now a tubsy 6 yo!
