Such a shame
It was a lovely rescue. This is the announcement on their facebook page:
*IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT*
As some of you will already know we have been dealing with serious family ill health over the past year or two which has prompted us to slow down a little regarding the rescue. We have recently had a review of the situation and sadly the outcome is one which has led us to make the extremely difficult decision to bring forth retirement and close Milhaven Guinea Pig Rescue after the usual Christmas closure.
This has not been a decision taken lightly, we have thought long and hard about it but despite working around family commitments successfully so far we are fully aware that things will become much more difficult.
We have thoroughly enjoyed the many years we have run Milhaven, we have helped thousands of piggies, families and other rescues with great pride and have met so many wonderful people who we now consider life long friends. We have experienced many emotions along the way but have always maintained huge pride in our rescue and team and love for all the piggies who have done so well and recovered from often heartbreaking injuries.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank every one who have supported us throughout the Milhaven journey, those who have adopted from us, donated to the rescue, fundraised on our behalf, sponsored our long term residents and those who have helped bring desperate piggies to safety, without you all we could not have helped so many piggies so THANK YOU!
In terms of the future.. we shall still continue to offer a safe and loving home and the very best of care to our long term residents who will remain here with us for the rest of their lives. Any funds remaining will be used to ensure that these special little ones continue to receive the medical care and attention they require and support their ongoing care. For all of our adopting families, full rescue back up will continue for advice and support unchanged.
The Milhaven name will continue as a sanctuary for our long term residents with the possibility of re-opening as a rescue/rehome shelter in the future.
Thank you all for sharing this amazing journey with us, we wouldn't change it for the world.
Much love from Joanne, the team and all the Milhaven piggies x
