Recently i have seen a mice hanging around my hutch, its after the pellets. I find droppings even in the food bowls! Will mice pass anything harmful onto my piggies?
Mice can carry diseases that may be transmitted to Guinea pigs and humans so I would make an effort to secure your hutch against them and seal food in chew proof containers.
They are in a hutch, but they have a playpen, which a mouse can fit through. We do seal our food in containers, the mouse gets the pellets from the pellet bowl.
Standing food will attract mice; and that leads to transmittance of diseases. Please feed your pellets in more than one small portion that can be eaten in one session, so it is not hanging around.
Could you make your playpen safe by stapling a fine mesh on the inside in a way that leaves no gaps along on the rim that mice can work through? They can get through amazingly small gaps.
