Hello,

I took my guinea pig to the vet a few days ago because I noticed that his stomach was really plump and bloated (but not the same as with gas).

The vet took some x-rays and said that he had an enlarged stomach and prescribed some metachlopramide, but I'm not sure if the dose is correct. My guinea pig is 1220 grams and he was prescribed 1.2 ml metachlopramide every 12 hours for 7-10 days. I asked another guinea pig forum, but there were varying answers, and someone said that their guinea pig died after they gave it 1 ml, so I'm really worried. He's been taking 1.2 ml for about 3 days

Also, 3 days into the medicine, I noticed this morning that he was a little lethargic. I'll keep a watch on him, but could it be caused by the metachlopramide? Other than the medicine, the only thing I can think of is that my mom accidentally scared him the night before because she ripped off a little bit of his fur.

I don’t have any experience of this. Hopefully someone with more experience will be along soon. Sending healing vibes to your piggy.

The Ever Beautiful Betsy is around 900-1000g and a few weeks ago she was given a dose of 1ml of Metaclopramide twice a day for 7 days. I queried the high dose and the vet said that it was OK to give that.

The volume to give depends on the concentration of the preparation of course, is this emeprid which has 1mg metaclopramide per 1ml medicine?
If so then the dose you have been given seems in line with the higher end of the recommended dosage for a 1.2kg animal :)

Thank you!
The concentration is 5mg/5ml so I guess it is correct. I was worried since the dose looked so high
