My Nancy is on metacam/meloxaid. I noticed last few times I've given her medication she no longer loves her meloxaid since starting a new bottle. I then noticed it smelt weird and that it's metacam this time instead of meloxaid. Those who have had both have you noticed a difference between the two in smell & taste please? I thought they were both exactly the same but maybe they are flavoured differently?

Hi

I've never been prescribed meloxaid so I can unfortunately not comment.

In the last years it's all been loxicom and now rheumocam for dog strength metacam.

(PS: These are all UK brand names for metacam.)

There is a shortage of Metacam Metacam at the moment (discontinued?), vets are having to use what they can get. My piggies on long term Metacam got Rheumocam yesterday. I'm wondering what will happen when the old bottle of Metacam runs out in a few days, they love Metacam and take it from the bars as if it's a treat! I hope this new one tastes as good although I've a feeling it doesn't!

Nooooo! Hamish is “addicted” to Metacam & Billy is currently sharing the bottle. We struggled with Hamish last time we had a bottle of Loxicom.

Does either of them smell? I'm used to what Nancy is being prescribed as having no smell. I assume it's fine but was thinking of asking the vets if it's normal. But she had a good pain night last night so I assume it's working!

I can't detect a smell from the Metacam (I understand it has a sweet honey taste). The Rheumocam has a faint smell, I think peachy. I don't have a good sense of smell though so I could be wrong!

I'm expecting a battle with the change although having just smelt the Rheumocan I'm living in hope, it smells sweet.

I rang to check and asked. And the receptionist said they do all smell different so it shouldn't be an issue
