Metacam dosage-does it seem too much?

Hi folks

My boy Walt has been at the vets today for a suspected URI. The dosage of metacam advised is 1.1ml. I found an old bottle of metacam for one of my boys Tribble who passed away which advised 0.7ml. Tribble was in a far worse state than Walt is now.

I just wanted to hear some opinions before I call the vets to double check. Does 1.1ml sound excessive?

What medication is Walt on? Please be aware that a respiratory infection doesn't require metacam (it's an analgesic), so what are you using it for?

Is it dog or cat metacam and has he been prescribed an antibiotic? as Wiebke says, metacam isn’t often used for a uri

Thanks for replying. The vet said she'd give me an anti inflammatory and an antibiotic. I was given metacam and enrocare. The only thing she advised he was being medicated for was a possible URI (he's been sneezing/his eyes have a little discharge) its only when I left i felt like maybe they were just guessing...

That is a high level for dog metacam. How much is he weighing?
Enrocare is a generic brand name for baytril.

How much is your boy weighing? We cannot judge the level of metacam without knowing the weight, sorry.

URI is a bacterial respiratory infection and not a viral cold (unlike what humans have).

That’s a high dose of dog metacam but he’s a big boy. Like Wiebke has said, you’re best to split the dose. I hope he feels better soon x
