I'm sure I saw a post on here with photos of wire mesh screen doors on sheds , but now I can't seem to find it.

I'm wanting one for my shed but I've been quoted around £75 to have one made and fitted (and that's using my own mesh). So I'm thinking of making my own as I've got loads of wire mesh already, but I'm also a bit rubbish at diy.
For those who have made their own, was it relatively easy to do ?
If you could possibly post a photo (and anything else that might help me) that would great , and really appreciated !

Will the door be made entirely of mesh? Don’t know how secure that would be and in terms of weather proofing. Some others with shed housing for their piggies will be along to answer in good time.

I’m having one put on my new shed but I’m having it fitted as part of the shed build.
You will still need an outer wooden door so the mesh door needs to be hinged internally. To be honest, it probably just easier to pay the £75 if you’re not great at diy!

Hello. my dad made a wire door for our shed when we had guinea pigs when I was a child. I'm afraid I don't have a photo but it was easy to make.
He made a wooden frame to fit inside the doorway - i.e. 4 sides and a bar across the middle, then he covered it with mesh. He put two locks like the link onto either side of the frame so we could lock it in place

He also put 2 small wooden blocks inside the doorway (on the floor) so that the door couldn't be pushed open at the bottom.
He also put the wire inside the window so we could open the window as wide as possible in the summer and cats couldn't jump in.

Good old Dad; he loved our guinea pigs 😍

Just to add, our door wasn't attached/ hinged It was stand alone (if you know what I mean) and we lifted it into place and locked it on.

It will be an internal door , mesh with a wooden frame. I'll still have the solid wooden shed door. I'm just thinking ahead, it would be nice for when the weather is warmer, I can have the shed door open but they'll still be safely behind the mesh door.

Thanks AMMAH, I think I need something permanently in place.
I've four dogs and three cats and while they don't bother the guinea pigs I still want them to have their own little space to themselves.

Hi @June M, I just found your post as I'm doing the very same thing. How did it go for you? Also, what type of mesh is best to use? I know chicken wire is a big no, but there are so many types on the market that I'm now confused! I'm also thinking of keeping flies out...so my head is hurting 😂 I hope yours went well...I'd love to see photos if you have any 😊 @AMMAH your Dad sounds like a great man 🙌
