Help!

I've just got home and noticed a small brown "mole" on the end of Merlin's cauliflower willy.
Thinking it was a bit of stuck poo i tried to pull it off and he squealed in pain
Then i noticed that it was bleeding

Here are 2 pics:

It's very small but hopefully someone has an idea what it might be ?

My poor baby :(

Ive taken him off hay immediately and put him straight onto vet bed

Can anyone advise?

Jen

Wow, my guinea pigs willies don't look anything like that. His looks very enlarged in the picture. I would get it checked, but bleeding moles can often mean cancer. Removing one is simple, but if they keep coming back that can mean it has spread. Sorry.

Cauliflower penis is nothing to be concerned about, more common than you think but I am concerned about the bleeding mole like Lyndsay said that can indicate something more sinister but perhaps he just knocked it on something and it is nothing serious.

I would get him to a vet. I hope he will be ok. Bless him. :smitten:

Thanks

His willy is always like that to be honest - he has a big cauliflower penis where there are lots of folds on the outside.
Its the little brown "mole" that looks different

I know its hard to make out - he was in a lot of discomfort so i had to go with the best of 3 pics

Thanks for the feedback though

Cheers
He is eating and moving around ok on soft things so hopefully its just a little nick caused by a sharp piece of hay.
Its literally appeared today as i checked him over last night

I'll get him to the vets anyway

Hopefully it's nothing. And as you say Hay is a possibllity. Milo has an odd penis. Peter thought he was female I was like nooo he came from a rescue...lol I've triple checked and he is a boy, they came in all shapes and sizes ;D Keep us posted! :)

hmm hope it's he's not got a bit of hay underneath the skin or something :-\

Yes, very interesting out of all the guinea pigs I have owned I have never seen a cauliflower penis. I have never owned a long hair. Your pig looks long haired. I wonder if it is more common in long haired pigs. Anyways, we did have a pig, along with several dogs that had spots like this come up. The bleeding can often be a sign that it is cancerous. Single spot removal is good prevention from spreading if caught early, but it often comes back. This is most common in older animals. I don't know how old Merlin is.

All the boars I have owned all have had a caulliflower willy ;) counting back I have had at least 10 piggies with them. Try not to worry about merlin give it a bath might be dried on poo or something. I losetcount how many times I have to wash Oakley and Rimmers boy bits ;D stinky little men ;D

Jen, try not to think of things like cancer right now. Nothing has been diagnosed.

Thanks everyone

It definitely isnt poo as thats what i thought it was in the first place and what made it bleed (when i tried to pull it off)

Merlin had a restful night on his vet bed. He scoffed all his treats so he is definitely not suffering loss of appetite ;D

I'm just going to pop him on some clean bedding before going to work and then I will call the vet and try and get him in for later today.

I'm out of the office from 11.30 so I may not post an update until tomorrow

Good luck, agree with Lucinda that nothing has been diagnoised so try not to worry. It probably is something simple if he still has a good appitite. :)

Oh Merlin :'( :'( :'( :'(
Dukey sends his mate lots of wheeeeeks and loves to help him get better quickly :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

Jen keep us posted we will have our paws crossed for our little Merlin O0 :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: Unfortunately this will be whilst i'm asleep but i'll be on tomorrow morning my time to check out the results O0
(((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((HUGS)))))))))))))))))))))))))) for you too love :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

Good Luck! I wasn't trying to scare you, just preparing you. They removed one mole from my last pig. He didn't get another for about a year. Then that one was removed he didn't get another for a year, but after that he started getting multiples and they couldn't be removed. It didn't slow him down at all. He lived 3 years after the initial.

Just got home and examined my little man and the "mole" seems to have gone so therefore may have been a scab.
There is a trace of blood in his bed though - just a little one

Ive just given Merls a very gentle willy wash and there is still a round lump where the mole / scab was so I'm still going to get him checked out

Thanks for all the support :smitten:

munchie used to have cauliflower willy too

so glad its nothing too serious, :smitten: :smitten:

Duke and i are very pleased to hear that our little friend is doing well :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

Duke was very worried about it all :'( :'( doesn't like to hear about things like that being sore :( :( :( :(

OK here is the update

The vet doesnt think that Merlin has a disease

However - she is concerned at how much his willy has grown in 12 months. Seemingly they grow all the time and this is symptomatic of a hormone issue.
To support this she feels that his testicles are far bigger than she would expect on a boar

The vet feels that this issue with the bleeding could be the first of many such issues for my little man and than eventually she might need to begin cutting bits off... something very painful for Merls, the wounds of which could be at high risk of infection.
He already drags his willy behind him on the floor

She feels that a possible option would be to have Merls neutered in order to (hopefully) stop the cauli from growing any more - thus preventing issues in the furture.

I expressed my concerns on the risks involved and, after a further examination of Merls scrotal area, thinks that she can operate quite high on him, therefore reducing the risk of infection afterwards as he wont be able to bite the stitches and the wound would be off the floor.

So i have a decision to make for my boy.
Neuter and hopefully prevent any more growth and futher issues potentially requiring surgery
Leave him and hope the willy doesnt keep growing too much

Jen

Oh what a decision Jen. Is she good at neutering? Good luck deciding. x

I trust her emormously - she seems to be very knowledgeable about guineas and their anatomy.

It's always hard. I think if I were you I would get Merlin neutered, but these decisions are never black and white.

Kisses for the poorly one x

Aw thanks - I'm still in 2 minds and quite anxious but I'm going to take the weekend to think it all through properly
