I believe my guinea pig has jaw pain. She had jaw pain to the point where she gained a head tilt while eating “harder” foods. The vet couldn’t see anything visible but gave us meloxicam to use for a week. We did that and it helped.
However it seems to have come back, not as badly but she seems to avoid eating stems of veg. Is meloxicam safe to use long term? Or would it be okay to give her meloxicam for a week on a non-frequent basis?

My Christian is now on long term Metacam for a back injury at quite a high dose. The vet said to protect his kidneys to syringe water into him when I give him Metacam to keep him hydrated. Lots of piggies are on long term Metacam.

Hi!

Yes, your piggy can be on long term metacam (whatever brand name).
I would however strongly recommend to have her vet checked for a potential dental problem and/or brewing abscess.

I am linking in @furryfriends (TEAS) for you. she has the most experience with dental and facial problems.
