Hey I really wanted to start a little diary with what they have been up to and it will Ben nice to look back on.

Their home started in a two storey cage. But it was so noisy and my dog was very interested. We got them their own lean to with a hutch and run inside but it was very messy. Now we have a three storey hutch with a hole in the roof and a ramp and their original 2 storey cage on top.

They are happy little piggies. Roi (black long hair) doesn’t run as he won’t give up his food for anything but just freezes when he sees someone. Although then carries on eating. Meic on the other hand loves to run and hide. But as soon as I close the door and look on camera he’s out running all over the place! Ha.
Here is today’s enrichment we built them a maze. The Lego one me and the kids built was a bit small. They got the food and were out of there 🤣

nice setup. Do they not try to eat the Lego pieces? And do they have 24/7 access to the run? I’m debating setting something up so my girls (and maybe the boys) can come out their cages.

I'm looking to build my cage frame out of timber, then add suitable mesh round the outside, then put a coroplast or correx base inside. Hopefuly itl be about 150x 60 cm

Thanks guys :) for the lovely 😊 messages. I would really like to change the name of this thread to Meic and Roi’s welsh adventure who could do this?

Roy has had a shave he was pretty good to be fair - I’ll cut the under next week don’t want to traumatise him too much

Meic is still being really nervous around me. Will this ever fade. He’s not even had a cut or bum bath or anything like Roi but yet he’s much more cautious with me even when the the food comes out

No they have never attempted to eat the Lego but I don’t leave it out and they don’t have 24 hour access 😭 that would be brill, just an hour a day out the cage. The dog has to go upstairs to my bed which she loves with a chew and they get the run of the kitchen with different set up every day :)

Cool. How big is their hutch and do they use all 3 levels? Do they zoom up and down? 🤣

They use all three levels between them. Roi likes to stay downstairs but flies up when he hears the food Meic stays on the second floor when I am there and when I leave goes to the top :)

My boyfriend is going to be building me an outdoor run soon I hope :)

I’m afraid neither the cage doesn’t even meet the minimum size requirement for two piggies. Boys need more space so one floor needs to be at 140cm at the minimum. Piggies are generally ground roaming so additional floors don’t count.

I would try and get them a bigger cage as well as letting them out to roam in the meantime.

Ok I’ve cleared out the shed and I can open the bottom hutch door put a ramp and now they have 1.2 metres x 1.4m to roam. Mine tend to sleep all night I Am sure 🤔 can I lock them in then?

Whhhhhhhhhhy do Pets at home get to sell a cage that isn’t big enough?!?!

Does anyone know of cage I could get that is suitable? Need it secure because of dog 🐶

Both of these cages are big enough:
Indoor Rabbit & Bunny Cages | Free P&P £29 at zooplus!

And PAH sell cages that are not big enough becasue they make money and immediately offering a large cage puts people off, so better to sell them a rubbish cage and an animal than nothing at all.
Don't even get me started on their hamster cages....

Great recommendations above on cages

Your pigs are lovey

The Ferplast Plaza 140 or 160 is a lovely cage, we have the 160 cm and it’s a good strong cage and safe around pets and small children, but it’s £69 not £29 from zooplus as stated previous. There are two on eBay for sale at the moment the 160cm is £32 in Exeter at the moment vgc

For safety I would lock them in on a night 👍

Ok I’ve had a good think today and here’s my plan. Keep the hutch and one floor. Let them roam around the whole place when’s it’s bad weather or cool enough. But when I need to I open the door I am going to try and figure a way of keeping them enclosed and safe using a cage. Thanks for all the cage info but I have spent so much money I don’t have any more ha here’s some photos from tonight’s. Ps. Why doesn’t three floors count by the way good for me to know still very new to this

I think it’s to do with room for racing around and popcorning. A smaller space impedes this. Could you nail a bit of cage across the door? Or buy a small picket fence that you can step over when you enter.

Good idea I will have a play around today and see what I can do

Hi well cage is only two story’s now with two big hides and few small ones.

They don’t seem to be coming out as much but maybe they need to get used to it?!

How’s often do you all change your fleece? If you don’t use fleec what do U use? :)56CA2936-0434-447E-B446-1D19C7D99BEE.webp

I use wood shavings as I found I couldn't cope with the laundry when I used fleece.
With the wood shavings I do a clean of their sleeping areas every 4 days and a full cage clean every week.

Today’s set up. Lots of space for them to roam :) they now have kitty litter trays with fleece and absorbant cloth underneath 603058EA-3939-4107-B171-A9A5E374C720.webp
