My bags about a metre high by half a metre wide. I use it for litter trays but I hear a little goes a long way. It is very absorbant and not smelly. My cage is just to big to fill with megazorb

am thinking of using megazorb for my gerbils, the large pets at home bale only lasts us 3 weeks! so only buy it as last resort i get my shavings from stables as its cheaper but they have started to stock a differant type which i dont like so am going to change to fleece cage liners

tried the whole fleece thing and couldn't bare it. It works for some people but not me :-)

Do you mean how big is the bag itself? Like was said above, the sack is about 1m x 0.5m, and much narrower than a giant pack of shavings, so it's much easier to store.

If you wanted to know how long it lasts, I use one 85l bag to cover over 40 sq.ft (i.e four 4x2-ish sized C&C cages) and a couple of rat litter trays.

HTH :)

how often do you need to change the megazorb - my boys cage is about 4x2 so i could probably get 4 changes out of it - but I change them twice a week at the mo so would **** only get 2 weeks out of one bag

I find that Megazorb lasts longer between changes than shavings. It's more absorbant and less stinky than soiled shavings too.

I clean my cages out roughly once a week. I usually use trays under the food/water area and a big rabbit litter box for hay so *most* of the wet mess gets caught in these trays and can be changed as frequently as you like/need, without having to replace the whole cage. I also do 'poop scoops' every couple of days, as two of my boys poop EVERYWHERE! But on average, I use roughly one bag every cleaning day.

I'd guess if you are cleaning them out twice a week, a bag will last you a just over a fortnight for one cage, but definitely nearer a month if you clean once a week with intermittent spot cleans.

Oh, by the way, not everyone likes the way Megazorb smells (I don't think it's offensive though!) but it's not as strong smelling as shavings and it feels quite soft to the touch :)

thanks for that - I guess the only way I'll find out if it works for me is to try it. But you've helped make up my mind ;)

Right - I've ordered myself a bag so I'll see how it goes. I do remember I bought some hay once and it smelt awful - like horse wee and I couldn't bare it so I had to get rid of it. I hope I can tolerate the smell of the megazorb :D

I change megazorb once per week, and spot clean the bits under their hidey dens and their hay tray daily ... tbh if I was going away for 10 days I wouldnt feel bad telling the piggie sitter not to clean them out fully just to scoop out the worst bits, the stuff still smells fresh after 7 days apart from their potty corners, hay tray and under their hidey dens. I like the smell of the stuff tbh! Its quite earthy and much nicer than stinky piggie fleece.

I have a 16sq ft cage which is the same as 3.5 x 3.5 or double the size of a ferplast 120 and one bag lasts three clean outs and I'm pretty generous with bedding

the only thing about megazorb is that it is so light that it seems to get all over the house!

I am going to give finacard a go as the bag is 220 litres I think for less than double the price of megazorb but well see :-)

Haha! It's funny how things vary in smell so much, isn't it? I had one hay that smelled like stale cigarette smoke...that went straight in the bin! I've been using meadow hay from my local horse supplies place recently and it smells fantastic! It makes my kitchen (where the pigs live) smell all sweet and lovely :)) Personally, I only find that megazorb smells when it's in the bag, once you've spread it around the cage I don't really notice it (but that might just be me!).

It's worth trying one bag of megazorb: if you don't like it it'll be gone in a couple of weeks. The horse supplies place said that Aubiose is also quite popular with piggie owners. It's hemp-based, and quite soft, but apparently not quite as absorbant. I've not tried it myself though.

Good luck with your experiment :))

I've not heard of finacard - will google it and find out about it - basically I'm looking for the most cost effective, least smelling, option (my boys stink!)

Mine stink too, literally 24 hours on a fleece and they make me bork ...

1 week on megazorb and I'm still not borking!

I have a 9x2 and clean twice a week......I think I would need to sell up and move in with the pigs if i used megasorb lol.

You would probably need to clean out less as it doesnt smell or get wet :-) My cage is 16sq ft thats about equivilant to a 7x2 (slightly bigger infact) and I get 3-4 cage cleans from a bag :-)

If you spot clean with megazorb it lasts a lot longer than shavings because it "clumps" rather than let the wee spread so you just take out the wet clumps, poo pick and redistribute the megazorb just adding some fresh if it needs it. Do that and you'll be fine with just a once a week complete clean and change of bedding and it's very quick and easy to spot clean.
You didn't say where you ordered it, online or a local supplier. If it's online the postage is usually a bit too pricey so it's worth finding a local horse/pet supplier who'll order you a few bags in regularly if you decide you like it.

Megazorb is great, especially for long haired pigs! It isn't compressed, so obviously you won't get as much in the bag. I used to get a bag of wood shavings for about £9 and the bag was a little bigger, but the stuff inside was compressed. What I know for sure is I do get through the megazorb quicker, but I prefer it to the shavings. :)

IT'S HUGE! haha.

You can get those storage boxes - really useful boxes - think they are called, or have a look in any local shops/tesco etc - if you get an 84L box then you can store - most of it in there - keeps it nice and tidy :)

xx

Ooooh! That's a really good idea! :))

whoop my megazorb arrived - the bag is huge and the pieces of megazorb are much smaller than I imagine they would be.
I only changed the pigs out yesterday but I really want to change them out again just so I can try the megazorb - must control myself and wait til the weekend :)

Oh enjoy! I love the stuff and have tried aubiose and others and have always gone back to megazorb. As someone said earlier, you can just poo pick etc between cleanings, I have even stopped putting newspaper now as its so absorbent without being wet.

I also use it on our hamster who stank after a few days on woodshavings (and I mean really whiffed!), on megazorb there is almost no smell and he tells me when he needs mucking out by starting to chuck his megazorb out over the side after about a week :))

Someone said that megazorb also dries piggies out - should I be worried about thier paws getting dry or the skin on their bodies?
Probably a silly question!

Yeah, that's was probably me :(|)

I've found that theirs skin was very dry, but after having bath once a month, it was as OK, so not to worry. Paws most affected by the way.

just put the first lot of megazorb in the boys cage. I didn't think its smelled at all. They seem to like it as they're popcorning. Lets see how long it lasts ;) So far I'm impressed.

I love megazorb, I use it to line the bottom of their hay tub, so much easier to dump it all out. xx

I've recently switched over to megazorb the only problem I have and its not really a problem is when my boys get excited and kick it out of the cage! It's easy enough to suck up the hoover though. :)

The 85 litre bag doesn't really weigh that much as the megazorb is light stuff. I have found that I don't need as much as shavings and just have to poo pick each each.... great stuff. It also goes on the compost heap so eco friendly! The bags are usefull to use round the garden as well.
I don't think my pigs have any problem with being dried out from it.

just trying to compare the weight of a bag to the weight of my shavings that i get which is 25kg, thinking of changing to megazorb for my small animals apart from the piggies as got cageliners coming tomorrow
