My lovely friend Andrea has given me a bag of megazorb to try.So the trial has started today on my pensioners cage.
Any up to date feedback off other members welcome. We usually use bale shavings a week.
Local suppliers in stoke on trent ?

No reviews on megazorb itself, however the only stockist in stoke-on-Trent are youngs animal feeds in congelton, or alternative horseleys in audley will order it in for you. Hope this helps :)

I've heard it can be really messy if used indoors as it is so light but some people love it. Think it's like marmite

I like aubiose, it's lots cheaper than megazorb, soft and absorbant :)

I always used megazorb for the piggles until i got my current cage. As the front of each of the three layers opens fully i kept losing it all over the carpet so now use newspapers and aquaflex.

I still use it for the hammies though, its very absorbent, doesnt smell and is so easy to pick up dry or wet.

I would definately recommend it.

Also, i used to get mine from a horsey type supplier and it was £6.59 for a sack, hope this helps x

I must say I am intrigued to know how you get on. I have been thinking about changing from shavings for a little while, fleece is too much up keep and everything else sold in pet shops etc is really expensive for a tiny bag.
Keep us updated :)

We recently tried it, i couldn't stand it! I have indoor piggies in a C&C cage and a sack hardly did 2 and a bit cages (for £10 a bag that is not alot) When you first tip it into the cage, - my god the dust! And the mess, as the piggies climb up the bars and its stuck to their feet i end up with it scattered all around the edge of the cage where its fallen through the bars, honestly i was hoovering everyday. But it did seem absorbent and didn't smell But the piggies never looked comfy and all relaxed on it. So yeah my list of bad points:

Messy
Expensive
Dusty
Didn't go very far.

I think if you had 2 piggies in a 120 cage that was in a garage (because of the mess) it would be ok, but not for a C&C cage.

Back to Layers of newspaper>shavings>barley straw.

I use Duobed.a mixture of chopped srtaw and shavings adout £8 a bale.Soft and absorbent. Half a bale fills my piggie area and is changed every 3rd day. This is for 32 piggies all living together.

I've tried all sorts of bedding. Mine have fleece ( thinking of trying that stuff from Dunelm Mill though) in their play area and Megazorb in the haybox where they spend a lot of their time, I've also used Megazorb all over before.
For me dryness is paramount and of all the different beddings I've tried Megazorb is miles ahead of everything else.
I used to spend a fortune on shavings, had to change them so often because of the wetness whereas Megazorb lasts a lot longer.
Ultimately I think it's as somebody else said, like Marmite - you either love it or hate it!

I used to use it Helen, slightly better than sawdust for soaking up the wee, you may find you can spot clean the worst areas and clean out less often. As has already been said you will love it or hate it. Fords at blythe bridge sell big bags of it, slight detour from work to pick up. Be interesting to see what you think. Will you use your newspaper underneath still too.

I tried it with and without newspaper and thought it worked better without. Others may disagree.

just sent you a message I have 3 bags megazorb you can have and around 9 or 10 bags of hay 1kg, some igloos too, let me know if you would like them :)

I love megazorb. Was converted when I rescued a piggy from a rescue who's policy was only to rehome to homes without shavings. I find it very economical and it's very absorbant. Wee smells are no more. I have 5 cages to clean out and only clean them out twice weekly. My long haired guineas hair is now tat free as shavings used to get tangled in their hair. I'm a total convert!

I have used megazorb for the last 3 years and love it, the initial outgoing can be quite expensive depending on the size of your set up (@ the time i used it in a 6x2 with a 1x6 upper deck) but i find it very absorbent, holds odour well, reasonably priced in comparison to other bedding, easier to hoover of the floor if spilt and long lived, you don't have to do a full change constantly, i use to remove the totally wet areas daily and replace with fresh stuff and scoop poop on the rest of the areas that didn't get too messy, before i bonded my piggies i found it more economical in my girls housing than my lads or maybe i just had messy boys, now i just use in it the "kitchen" area, same as previous i remove the wet areas daily and replace with dry stuff and scoop poop while hooving the fleece, i do a full change every 2 weeks, i use less of this than what i have previously used (woodshaving - too messy, more smell, gets everywhere, spend my life going to the tip to get rid of the waste) (carefresh-too expensive, i don't find it as absorbent) (wood based litter - too heavy to carry and get rid of, stalking the tip again) (shredded card board - not too absorbent) prior to that i use to use a paper based litter, it was mainly white, sometimes light blue and the paper was soft felt almost like felt and was in long strips about 20 inches long x half an inch wide, this stuff was awesome but i ordered in bulk then when i was running out couldn't find it again to reorder anyone know of anything similar?

I've used Megazorb (£6.99 bag) for about 3 months & now rate this as the best bedding base I've ever used. I put a 1/2 inch layer on the bottom of their 8ft x 3 ft cage. Because they didn't seem to like walking on it I then spread a thin layer of hay (only £4 a bale from local farm) on top, then extra hay for them to eat & play in. I use vet bed on old towels on their eating platforms at each end of the cage & also use vetbed on top of the megazorb in the houses. They have never been happier & I clean everything out once a week. I first got the idea of Megazorb from the internet when I saw a website by a guinea pig rescue in North Shields who said they would not let their piggies be rehoused to people who used wood shavings. I forgot to mention, one bag of Megazorb does 3 changes but with lots of people using shop bought cages a lot smaller than mine it would probably last 12 weeks or more.

I have been using Megazorb for about 3 or 4 years now. I really like it. I buy it from a local supplier who mainly deals in horse feed, bedding etc and obviously horse owners use Megazorb as well. I pay £7.69 per bag.

What I particularly like is how it is so easy to spot clean in an instance. I use a thick layer of newspaper underneath.

I would add that my piggies are in hutches in a shed. I have tried using it in cages indoors but personally for me, it was a no go! Too messy. Indoors I use fleece that I put on top of newspaper in the cages - not vetbed as I didn't get on with that ... too thick and I was unable to wash and dry quickly enough ... I just use a fleece material that I buy by the metre from my local fabric shop.

Look forward to reading other peoples opinions on Megazorb.

Hi

I've just had my first bag of Megazorb. Piggies didn't like all megazorb, they don't like walking on it. Now its half fleece and Megazorb with hay on top. Underneath, newspapers and puppy pads. Only smell is from wee on hay..Mine are in the living room..

GREAT FOR SMELL
VALUE FOR MONEY

STICKS TO EVERYTHING FLEECE
BIG BAG TO STORE
DUSTY BEFORE SETTLING

I started using megazorb this week in my c&c and I'm loving it. Very cheap, easy to use and no wee smell. The piggys seem to like it, boris enjoyed having a good dig in it!

I love megazorb. I have it for bunnies and piggles most of the time as well as one of my horses when she's stabled. Its super absorbent, no more messy than shavings and causes less hoover issues than hay anyway so never bothered me. It works out marginally cheaper than shavings for me, but thats megazorb at £9 a bag, snowflake shavings at £9 a bale, megazorb lasts better so I can just spot clean and do a full clean about every 4 days, rather than every other day with shavings. Only downside is my piggles end up flicking it in the water bowls more than shavings, and it soaks up loads of water! But then I end up changing their waters 3 or 4 times a day anyway.

Hi! I just joined :)p
I know this is a wrong place to ask this but I couldn't figure out how to post a question?
I can't buy any sort of bedding, its not available where I live (which is Iran) I was wondering if I can "make" some sort of bedding out of paper? I know paper is safe.
Please help me?
All the wood shavings we have here is micture of different sorts (which I know it isnt safe) and it's extremely dusty anyway.
What should I do? Please help I'm a young unexperienced mommy :0

Welcome to the forum.

You can post a question in a area of the forum such as general chat etc... By clicking on 'New Thread' button it's on the top left of the screen.
You could always use newspaper and hay? This would be safe. The hay would need changing often beacause of wee and poo but it would do the job for you.

well i thought i'd got a bargain with my 11 quid sack of megazorb but after reading through this thread, it seems not! That was for 80 litres. It.s still about half the price of carefresh so it feels like a bargain to me. I just got it today from a local agricultural supplies shop. Haven't tried it yet. I still have carefresh left so i might mix the two. It.s only for the hayloft. I have fleece on top of bedmats in the main part of my cage and it.s perfect. Still experimenting in the loft.
