I like to start my day sitting outside with a cup of green tea for me and dish of mealworms for the jackdaws.

First we have "Mealworm", who has been visiting for 4 years and will take food from my hand.

Then we have Smarty Pants who after spending a lot of time lsst year intently watching Mealworm started to come down too.

And finally we have Sprocket, who is the offspring of Smarty Pants and hatched this year.

This photo makes me laugh as it looks there is a miniature hackdaw perched on the table with Sprocket🤣

(I think I need to clean the table:whistle:)

I love jackdaws, their "chack chack chack" calls are so friendly! I hardly see them where my house is - would gladly swap some for my vast flock of starlings!

That first photo of Sprocket has me giggling, it's a great shot. Can I swap your jackdaws for my magpies?

Starlings are a rarity here, usually see 2 or 3 for a few weeks in spring and thats it

I think he looks a bit like a parrot in it!
Sorry, but I think I will stick with the jackdaws x

Probably for the best, my local magpies are insane. They did manage to rear at least one chick this year, although they decided that all the trees in the area needed clearing of "rivals" for the safety of the nest.

the young'un isn't the brightest either. Every morning (s)he'd fly and land on my windowsill and then freak out because I was in the house.

I adore all corvids, my favourite birds, so intelligent. I have ones I feed where I walk, they recognise my car, and my dogs. I was worried I would endanger them by making them trust humans, but was relieved to find they very definitely know the difference!

I have watched jackdaws in the garden take it in very organised and accurate turns to spill mealworms out of the tray so all the others can eat it on the floor. (I have to feed it up in the air or the rats would eat all of it before the birds got anywhere near it!)

Lovely pictures.

@Bluebell yes, they can recognise different people. Sometimes Mealworm spots me in the street and follows me home.
I love how they look out for one another, Mealworm takes food back to his mate, who isn't trusting enough of me to come over and once several years ago when a cat caught a jackdaw in my garden a whole flock came down surrounding it and screeching.

Jackdaws are wonderful birds, beautiful blue eyes and very smart. We have a pair that nest every year in next doors chimney pot
Up until this year Mealworm and his mate have nested in the same neighbour's chimney pot. But this year they moved one house along which gives them a better view of my back garden and backdoor. I don't think this is a coincidence. Interestingly Smarty Pants and her mate moved into Mealworm's old chimney. I don't know where or if she nested last year, this may have been her first nesting season.

Wow what beautiful pictures @Pound Shilling & Pig :luv: :luv: :luv:Stunning!
I’m a massive fan of corvids, so gorgeous and clever! I never used to have any jackdaws that came into the garden, but this year have had a little gang come daily (and polish off lots of grub!). They spent the summer claiming what was normally my gang of magpie’s garden, lots of noisy squabbling with them and a pair of crows for months!
They’re now all best friends who share the trees and food! And gang up in the apple trees behind me to make as much noise as possible and stare at my bedroom window (where I spy at them from!) to remind me to feed them!
I love watching them, blooming hilarious too!
Glad you’re feeling a bit better :) x

I live in a rural village and my husband is not as enthusiastic as I am about the birds that visit us (encouraged by my feeding). How lovely that Mealworm is waiting for you even if it is only about the food 💕
