Teenage Guinea Pig
So, in November I got Tubs and Flubs neutered, as they've been living side-by-side for a while and I think they were missing having a pig actually in the same cage as them. I've been looking for two sows for a while, one to bond to each boy -- the tricky thing is that in the case of Tubs I wanted a very young girl as he's extremely fear-reactive so I want to make sure he feels in charge.
In early December, a friend of mine had an accidental litter, with two sows and a boar. The sows were so beautiful, little clouds of fluff. I offered to take the sows once they were old enough... and here we are! Everyone, please meet Tamika (grey) and Fey (brown/black). Pictures are from a couple weeks after they were born, and the video is them clearly settling in today. They are tiny and perfect little tufts of fluff (mum and dad were both Peruvian, so I have some serious hairdos on my hands).
I think nominative determinism is at work; not only does Tamika have similar facial markings to Tubs, but she's the braver piggy by far (just like he was). Fey is warier, prefers to hang back, and has a nose-stripe just like Flubs. I've never had guinea pigs this young before, they are zoomy-ing and popcorning like crazy .
We won't be bonding either girl with a boy until Tubs is fully better (which is going to take a while yet, unfortunately, he's still not even able to eat on his own).
