This is Kief! he's quite the sweet heart. newest addition to my family and my first full grown guinea pig and first fully developed boar. He is so happy in his cage for he was in a small plastic container to live in, anyway he's getting along amazingly they're a trio which is surprising due to the other 2 males are little pups. Was wondering if with very very very close and strict supervision if he could meet the girls? kief.webp

Hiya,

Your boy is gorgeous,

Please don't let your boy come in contact with your girls, it only takes seconds for him to Impregnate your girls, also it would only upset him if he was then separated from them, which could result in him taking it out on the other boys....

Lisa & Ali..

thanks so much! all i needed to know is that it takes seconds, one more question even though he's 2 years old can he be neutered ?

Kief is a really lovely piggy & I agree about only takes a few seconds. I would keep him & the other boys away from females as it can cause them all to fallout & fight. Regarding neutering, this should only be done for either medical reasons or if you intend a bond a male with females. It is essential that you research your vet so that you get one who does this op on a regular basis. If you have any rescues in your area who have a neutering policy then ask them which vet they use x

not introducing the males & females at all

thanks i will, i guess neutering seems a bit much just want to have a big area for him and the females together and not worry about anything thanks so much!

Neutering is a only good idea if you have access to a general vet that is practised in guinea pig neutering or a small animal specialist. Otherwise, the risk of complications and adverse reactions to the general anaesthetic or suturing material can be sadly A LOT higher. You also need to factor in a full 6 weeks post op wait until Kief would be 100% safe with girls. My surprise baby Tegan is the result of a supposedly safe over 5 weeks post neutering op rescue boar, just to prove that particular point!

Full boars and sows are a strict no-no - by the time you can get to Kief in all lieklihood, the damage has happened. Boar penises have little hooks at the tip for better grip (seeing that a boar depends on a girl in season lying still for him), so if you were to rip him off, you could also damage him.
