So we’ve picked up two new female guinea pigs to bond with Rosie after she’s lost her friend. They are in separate cages in the same room at the moment. Well last night all you could hear was wheeking from them all. I think the two new ones are older than Rosie especially 1 of them who weighs 788g and other is 588g Rosie is still on 511g. I do hope they bond well. Just surprised to hear so much wheeking last night! Any advice on bonding? I’ve read so much but also a lot of contradicting information at the same time.

Hello how lovely you have two new girls - I don’t have experience of girls but it sounds like excitement to me
The bonding info on here is amazing and I’m sure more experienced members will be along to advise you !
Rosie will be a lucky piggy to have two new friends 🥰
Good luck ❤️❤️❤️

How old are they all?
Are the new girls from a reputable rescue and therefore known to be healthy?

You need to put them on neutral territory with no hides, just hay and water. They stay on neutral territory for several hours, overnight if needed - you want them to get through a good amount of dominance before moving them to the cage.

The guide below explains more

Good Luck

Hi

You may find our step by step bonding guide helpful. It discusses the attendant characteristic behaviours for every stage of the bonding process. My own ample bonding experience with well over a 100 Tribe bondings in all variations as well as collective member experiences with which tricks and methods work and which not have all gone into our bonding guide.

Our guides are not just handing on untested advice, they are based on lots of real life experiences and feedback.

At this young age, the need to belong is still pretty strong. What you can have is potential going on overload or n insecure new leader throwing their weight around a but too much. Since every bonding is different, you have to wait and see. Rosie may rather come at the bottom and not at the top but it depends on the personalities and the dynamics between them.

I've recently bonded three sows....it took over two weeks of chasing and squealing and was, in short, rather stressful! A lot of times I had to take a deep breath and trust them to get on with it because as an observer it could be difficult to watch. Then all of a sudden it was like flicking a switch and everyone decided they were done. They all get on fine now and peace is restored. I just wanted to say good luck, get yourself some brandy and all my best wishes for a positive outcome 😊
