So we just got Ella two guinea pigs for her birthday....My Dad made a great hutch. He always hand made the hutches we had when i was little for all 18 of my piggies...how i miss them!
Trouble is, what my Dad hadnt taken into account, is that unlike the massive permanant runs that we use to have on our garden, attached to some very large hutches, the hutch we need here will not be permantly attached to a run.
This is for two reason....we know there is a fox around, and we have three cats. So, for very obvious reasons, the piggies need supervision when out side.
So the plan is to transfer them to their outside run when we are outside, and the cats are in. I'm lucky as we have large french doors that lead right out to the garden, so when I'm in the kitched/dining area, i can see exactly what is going on...useful for keeping an eye on a 4 year old too!
So, this hutch i have then....It's lovely, it really is. But i think it's too small. Given that they dont have access to the run all the time, i think it definately needs to be bigger.
So, i've just bought a much bigger one, that has two levels....it's much more suitable! And i love it. And i know the piggies will be happier there!
I know my Dad will get the hump! Nothing i can do about that.
And the other half is going to complain as well...urghghg...cause it's quite a lot bigger than what we currently have.
I know i've done the right thing, and i feel happy now. I've been worrying about for the last two days. I could see that when they are fully grown they just were not going to have enough space...but boy am i in for some moaning later on......wish me luck!!
