Hi, my two boys are just getting over a nasty fungal infection and whilst giving them a bath i noticed George had an angry swollen raised scab on further inspection we realised it was an abcess. We took him to Vedra who cleaned him up and said it was a bite. Can't believe Bubbles has been biting his brother and we always thought they were playing. We may need to seperate them now which is so sad. At the moment i'm a little worried about putting George back and he's sitting in the kitchen in his carrier. Has anyone else had this problem? what happened and how did you sort it? Please help!:(

sorry i havnt got any guinea pigs yet so i dont know what to say, but i hope it all works out fine

They may just have been a bit grumpy as the skin infections can make them feel awful. I wouldn't seperate them just yet as it may have been an isolated incident and given a bit of time to get back to their normal selves it may be fine between them again.

Best of luck with your boys.

Thanks Suzy, that makes alot of sense to me, I did put George in again ( they have a nice large space) and they've been grazing side by side so fingers crossed.

Cheers, Paula

I agree with suzy, i have two boys and Harvey is the more dominate one which means he usually is quite possesive over the last remains of veggies and Arthur used to get little nips I'd suggest seperating the wet and dry food bowls so you have two of each that solved my boys scraping at food time :) hope your boys make up soon, and hope the little one George is getting better :)

Thanks for your message, George went back in with Bubbles yesterday and they are grazing together although i do feel that he is a little wary of his brother, won't turn his back on him and doesn't want to spend too much time in his company. As i said previously they do have a big area and it is possible to find your own space. Can't wait for the shops to open tomorrow have been reading advice on toys and i want to look in the charity shops for suitable cuddly toys for them each so they have something to snuggle down with.^)

I had to seperate my three because biting ears. They all started off happy brothers!

Still not sure if all is well with my boys. Bubbles my big greedy boy seems to want to chase George all around the run (which is why I thought they were playing) and seems to want to get right behind George, so it may be that he is in the mood for love. George on the other hand is having none of it and tries to put distance between himself and his brother. I bought them some cuddly toys to keep them occupied and that was hilarious, they hid in a box for ages and when George decided to come out, he took ages crawling up to this big pink teddy on his belly before running away to another safe house. Still feel that I need to keep an eye on things for now

Me again, what I also meant to say is that the boys keep having this nose to nose confrontation and if anyones space is invaded they make a low rumbling/grumbling noise, does anyone know what that means?:(|)

If you rub the teddies on their wax gland just above their bottom so it smells of the object of their desire, some rather rude boys use it to 'relieve' their frustrations - it gives their life partner a break from all the attention. After they have finished the job, they often relax and chill out completely - some ignore it, some use it once or twice and give up, a few love to use it everyday! Worth a try if it keeps the harmony. I use a teddy that can be washed!

You have my sympathies - i have been through the same with Basil and Dillon, poor Basil has lost half of one of his ears! I have chosen to have them neutered and find them ladies to live happily ever after with.
I also have two young lads outside in a hutch that i've seperated :(
Sorry it's such a negative reply, a few people have told me that they've kept 2 males and had no problems at all so hopefully your boys will settle down again soon x

Thanks Suzy, what a great idea, will definately give it a go, poor old George could use a break
