Hi Everyone, as i mentioned last night i am new to keeping guinea pigs, and at the moment i have one boar Maxwell hes about 11 weeks old and ive had him for about 2 and a half weeks. Everytime i go to get him out its a game of chase! he runs round and round til he eventually stops and i can pick him up, once ive got him and hes fine and he starts making a 'cooing' noise when I'm stroking him and he seems to like snuggling into my neck. So I'm just wondering if the 'game' of chase stresses him out? as he seems quite relaxed once he is out, what do you think? :{

sorry if this is on the wrong thread still getting used to the forum!

I think this is perfectly normal behaviour, maybe try coaxing him into a corner so you can catch him quicker. Generally guinea pigs are prey animals and do a fair bit of running! :)).

thanks Joanne I'm glad its normal, maybe hes just making me work for his affection! :)

Put your hands directly in front of his face and gently back him into a corner, talking all the time. One hand stays over his head and face, keeping him from running away, then slide your other hand under his tummy. Then pick him up with both hands and be aware he may paddle his legs on leaving the comfort of the ground! Piggies were not designed to fly.....Hope this helps!

Running is normal and also stressful. The sound of your voice being all calm and normal will lessen the stress. The less running about the better, best of luck!

Perhaps you want to think of getting Maxwell a friend from a rescue who can give him company and help him settle down?

i am hoping to get maxwell a friend, as hes only a baby obv not neutered yet so cant get him a girlfriend and I'm worried he will fight with another boar!
