So my 3 year old female guinea pig Mavis had another trip to the vet on Monday after i noticed blood in her urine again. Although she showed no signs of pain, was running around and eating fine, she had an episode of blood in her urine back in December and had a big 5mm stone which she did pass so i wanted to get her checked out again just incase.

The vet had a feel around and then did an ultrasound and Mavis didnt have any pain the blood in her urine was clearing up by the afternoon. On the ultrasound it showed Mavis had lots of sludge in her bladder and her bladder was very inflammed but no stones, thankfully.

As per the vets orders i have been:
- giving meloxicam x2 a day
- increasing her water intake by 10mls + a day (water in her nuggets, syringing water, extra low calcium veg) etc
- shes already on a low calcium diet

Ive been keeping a close eye on her, her urine is still drying discoloured (brownish) although isn't the same dark red as when i first took her to the vet. And very obviously has sludge/calcium powder in it. She doesn't appear in pain

Anyway my question is, should i expect her to have an increase of sludge in the urine as we know there is lots in her bladder from the ultrasound and hopefully shes just passing it where its being treated?

I'm so worried about her getting another stone, i also have covid and feeling rotten and its making me so very anxious about her.

I don't have much of an idea unfortunately, although I imagine it has to come out somehow!
Have you thought about switching her to filtered water? This can massively decrease their calcium intake 👍❤️

You can also wet her veggies to help further increase water intake to keep the bladder flushing through.

Has the vet mentioned her needing a bladder flush to get the sludge out?

Thank you, ive used a britta filter for the water since her first stone 👍🏻 a good gadget to keep the calcium down.

No vet didnt mention it, if the sludge doesnt improve maybe it will be something to consider. There veg all goes in filtered water which i think has helped the last few months.
