Just checked the label on the old mattress protector my mum gave me and it says it's mostly polyester. Would it still work or would I be better off buying a 100% cotton one

You need to use a cotton one as polyester is essentially plastic so isn't absorbent. :)

I make liners and it has to be 100% cotton topped not all cotton the rest can be polyester, and toppers aren't absorbant but light and airy which allows the pee to dry and that reduce's the smells

I think the only thing that is cotton is the skirting around the edges. The filling and lining is made from polyester I think :S Guess I will have to buy one lol oh well

It depends what type of topper it is, I use the Comfort nights ones [ame="http://www.amazon.co.uk/Comfortnights-Washable-Absorbent-90cms-litre/dp/B000MEV9UE/ref=sr_1_13?ie=UTF8&qid=1331979225&sr=8-13"]Comfortnights Washable Absorbent Bed Pad 75 x 90cms 2 litre With Wings: Amazon.co.uk: Kitchen & Home: Comfortnights[/ame] which have five different layers, the top layer being " a highly technical fabric which allows liquids to quickly pass through".

AAAAAAAAHHHHHHH! 100% cotton!?? I just bought some nice 100% polyester fleece.......
I must be crazy@)@)

You need the polyester fleece as a top layer, the wee wicks through that into the mattress protector/puppy pads underneath where it's locked away.
