I've been using fleece and puppy pads since I got my girls, but I was thinking about getting a mattress cover to put under their fleece.

Is a mattress cover a better idea and is it safe for them to chew on?

My pigs are known to pull up their fleece and poop under it then semi-roll the fleece back over it. I have never seen them chew on the puppy pads so I was fine with this to a certain degree. Is there any way to stop this behavior? They are both litter trained so they don't do this all the time, but it is something I would rather not have them do.

Thx

I guess the one thing I would say is that if you are able to sew a liner using fleece with a matress protector sandwiched in between this might be slightly heavier and more awkward for your piggies to roll back and poop under.
But I think if a piggy is determined to burrow, then even a liner will not stop them.

A 100% cotton mattress protector shouldn't be harmful if they nibble a little, but it isn't something I would be happy about them chewing really.

Thx I don't think I would sew a liner though because of the fact that they poop and pee when they turn it over. I'd rather not have the pee sitting under their fleece

I use fleece with a mattress protector underneath. I followed a tutorial on this forum to make the liner. It has wings that fit over the side of the correx so it can't be lifted/tunneled under. I didn't sew the fleece and mattress protector together so that I could wash in separate loads when necessary to cut down bulk in the washing machine.
How To Make A Cage Liner (with Pics) Sorry but all the pictures have disappeared from this link. maybe someone else can point you in the right direction. Here's mine

Ah sorry! Just assumed it was a c&c, don't know why!:D
Is it the white and green one with the base on the outside? Can't quite see how it all fits as can't get a close up picture but as you said maybe cut holes in the fleece on the outside to accommodate the straps. (Maybe you could just add a "skirt" of fabric to your existing liner)
If you trawl the internet there are quite a few ideas, some people use bulldog clips/paper binder clips, sewing Velcro to edge of liner and base or even PVC pipes to act like a frame to hold a liner in place.
Hope you find something that suits you. x

Thx and yes it is the white and green base on the inside and I found an idea I think I'll go with, it takes the fleece and you sew on loops that go in the Velcro to hold the fleece in place.
