Babe is a rex/abyssinian cross we think and she has quite long fluffy wavy hair (with 2 rosettes on her back x)). I've been combing her every day but she has some matts around her bottom from before I got her. I've cut some of them out but some are very close to the skin. Will they grow away from the skin in time so I can cut them? Or will they just keep matting up to the skin?

I don't want them to pull on her skin and be uncomfortable for her.

Also, how can I prevent her hair matting up underneath her bottom? It's quite difficult to comb everywhere because she's so tiny. She's only about 8 weeks old.

I've never had a long haired pig before so I'm not quite sure what I'm doing re grooming.

we find this with our two babies that are long haired. i got some detangling spray that is for animals from petplanet. look in your local petshop or where you get piggy supplies!

Does this spray detangle existing knots or is it preventative?

This is a direct quote from the bottle"PETSAFE, anti-tangle spray, for cats, dogs and small animals. A formidable formulation designed to help remore even the toughest of coat tangles. This unique spray should be applied liberally to the coat and then groomed through using a comb or brush. Helps remove tangles easily and minimise stress to both the coat and your pet"

NB< put your hand over the piggies' eyes!

Any ideas about how to bath a long haired piggie to minimise tangles? I won't be bathing Babe until she's grown up but worth knowing. I presume they also make an anti tangle shampoo or similar?

if you go to www.gorgeousguineas.co.uk - they do all types of shampoo and ones for long haired piggys.

i have a long haired merino and go posh and go, and its brilliant!

I didn't know that existed as my boy Harry gets very tangled hair around his bum and he gets so distressed when groomed I clean his bum weekly with Simple baby wipees and give him a good brush once a week and a bath every other month and a hair cut every few months to get rid of the tats, I think some tats are inevitable.

I use posh n go too, its brill. Chrissie also does an aloe vera melt and a tiny amount rubbed into the hair, then tease out any tangles works well for me. I groom my longhaireds every day but still get a knot or two around the bum area..I bath them every month.
