Hey everyone my guinea pig has 2 mats in her fur I only noticed today as she has long fur can I just cut them out there not like on her skin there at the end of her fur
Thankyou in advance

As long as cutting it isn’t going to pull her skin then it is fine to cut
It is fine to cut the mats out if they’re not near her skin x
thankyou I just cut one out and it seems fine she had lots of fur underneath the mat so isn’t bald there I’m going to go get brushes to groom her daily so hopefully it won’t happen again !

It's fine to just cut them out, making sure not to cut the skin while you do it. Long-haired pig do tend to get mats, particularly around their hind end. Regularly trimming their bum area to keep the hair there shorter can help prevent mats in the future and keep them from getting pee on their fur.

Brushing can help, and if you have a piggie that likes brushing that's enormously helpful! My long-haired pig hates brushing/clipping and it's difficult to keep on top of her coat... we end up with one person holding all four feet off the ground so she can't run off and I just grab long pieces in the back and cut the shorter, so she always has a really weird haircut going on! LOL!

Truffle used to wriggle alot, but he has gotten to enjoy being brushed and stroked. I keep the hair that grows along his back and over his bum short as then I can run the comb through it without putting pressure on it as he gets uncomfortable if there are any pulls or pressure. Keeping his skirts and the fine hair underneath him short helps alot. He also gets fur stuck to his Weiner and in his boar pouch and gets boar glue on it, so a trim down there makes him more comfortable and clean ❤️

Priscilla was my long furred piggy.
I used to keep the fur around her bum short and in summer used an animal shaver to give her a good all over trim..
You may also find that unscented, water based baby wipes are good for helping keep the bum area clean.
@Betsy ’s hair cutting guide is well worth reading.
