I have a metal pen at the moment that I use indoors or out depending on weather. It's lovely and big but is such a pain to put up and down! Was thinking of getting a material run which has detachable bottom and a net for the top. Has anyone had one before?

I've got one for inside and it's brilliant, even Miss Chew Anything hasn't tried eating it, but I'd never use one outside. I just don't think they are secure enough. My pigs burrow and I'd be too afraid of them getting there noses under the run and making for freedom. A netting top also doesn't seem enough to keep out cats and birds of prey or corvids for me

Thanks for the advice :) Maybe I'll jus buy one for inside then and set the other one up on the grass when the weather warms up and leave It there (until they eat all the grass of corse!)

Forgot to ask which one you have and how many piggies you have?

I have three little pigs! Thy are about 5months old ish. I've got the medium 8-sided nylon run from Zooplus. Ideally I'd have got the large one but it's too big for the room! They live in it at weekends and get floor time in our dining room :)

Thankyou I think I'm going to purchase the large one next week

I don't recommend runs made from material but it really depends on your pigs. I know for fact mine would chew out in minutes as I have a pair of chewers(my girls would be okay but still don't fully trust them) I personally would stick to a metal run so nothing can get out and nothing can get in x

:agr: with "my4piggies". I have two metal runs, which, when not in use, are just turned onto their sides and left next to the garden fence, out of the way. I do not dismantle them.

I did wonder about the chewing! I'll have to have a good think about it :hmm:

My metal run you have to actually take the long peg things out to put it it down other wise it doesn't fold up :hb:Nightmare!

:D It sounds like mine. I have to take the roof off first, which is permanently attached to one side. Then I have to pull out the long ground pegs to dismantle the other three sides separately. Too much like hard work! Mine has only got four sides. Do you not have anything like netting or such, to put on the top?

I used to have a run like that with 4 sides and nylon netting on the top. Came home from work one day to find a cat trampolining on the netting! :yikes:

Yes it can be a bit annoying sometimes I have 8 panels I have to do individually and you have to get the shape right other wise the loops don't match and the pegs don't go through properly can take me ages sometimes ... Maybe that's just me being a plonker though! No I don't have a net as I haven't used it outside yet except once but I was out there with them I used to have a huge pen running down the side of the garden for them but had to get rid so used this pen as someone gifted it to me. Maybe a wooden run that folds down :hmm:

I have a wooden and mesh run from rabbit-hutches.co.uk and although it never been used outside yet (!) it's brilliant. It's fully colapasable and the roof actually locks onto the sides and the roof has metal braces that you attach, which stop the sides from beig able to fold inwards whilst the run is set up, so if a dog runs into it (or something) the sides cannot fold in. There's no shelter area so it does need a separate hidey but I'm really pleased with it.

i have the large zooplus pen,but use it as an indoor run, have used it outside under supervision, but still kep base in,use a fleece liner had made .use a cardboard box to put hay or grass in.used netting ,..i have a cat but she has never attempted to get in run or sit on it.but I'm out in garden whilst this run is in use.i have a sturdy wooden run whilst out in summer.

Thanks for the advice I'm going to look Into wooden ones too

I made my wooden run with 4 panels and a lid. I just put it together in the summer and then unscrew the panels in the winter for storage. I find this really easy and secure for my guinea pigs.
Rabbit & Guinea Pig runs I got recommended this website for wooden runs and they sell them cheap and look to be a very good quality.
But if you have basic diy skills you would be able to make on easily.

the largeone is a good size116 cm diameter.recommend for holidays, indoor use, toputcaviesin whilst cleaningout cages/hutches.medium one is 92cm diameter.both medium and large are good, small one is not big enough for cavies.xx

we had a fabric one, i had to use bricks on the inside to weigh it down on the lip part coz the pigs managed to get their heads under & push out. not much fun chasing round garden trying to get them before next doors jack russel offered to help! i use metal runs now.

Oh really maybe I won't get one then as I have a dog his still a puppy and will probably see them as a chew toy! God forbid!

I have an XL version that I used to use inside but now I only have two piggies, I let them have playtime in the hallway instead.

I think that the ones with the removable bottom are very good but I would never use them outdoors x

I got mine from eBay. If you type in XL fabric guinea pig run on ebay, it comes up with loads. Just remember to choose XL when stating the diamentions. There are loads to choose from. Mine is blue and has a removable bottom although if you aren't intending to use to outside, you don't really need the removal cover :)

This is the one that I have. It has a holder included for a water bottle Soft Fabric Pet Play Pen Run Cage Dog Puppy Cat Rabbit Guinea Pig Playpen Blue
