Does anyone know if marrows are a safe food for guinea pigs? My boss has an allotment and is trying to get rid of some marrows (nothing wrong with them - just too many for her to eat!)

I have looked on the food thread and cannot find anything about marrows. Obviously I wont feed them until I know if they are safe.

I think that they are mainly water? I have tried my six on marrow but they turned their noses up at it :)

I have had a little search around and they seem to be like huge zucchinnis/courgettes so I guess they would be okay. My guinea pig doesn't like courgettes though.

Mine eat courgettes and marrows although they aren't the vegetable of choice. They seem to prefer eating the skin to the fleshy bits and wont eat much at a time so i'd suggest cutting them up and only giving them a little a day rather than big portions of it.

It was a total failure! I tried to tempt him while he was on my lap but he just turned his nose up and moved away. Then I left a slice of marrow in his food dish overnight and in the morning there were just two tiny teeth marks in the edge! He's obviously not a marrow fan!
